I am seriously looking for a good MMORPG to dedicate a good portion of time too.

After playing a MMORPG I won't name for many years and dealing with a bad team of devs and moderators, I have decided to move on. Things have gone too far now, so I must leave it. Ever since I decided I would commit to a new game, it has been so difficult finding one that feels like it is for me. Especially in the F2P market.

WoW from what I've heard from people, or seen online is a game that people either love, hate, or have a love/hate relationship with. I kinda felt love/hate with my past game. So I'm not so sure how WoW is going to be?

I have some questions if anyone is kind enough to answer.

Is WoW Pay to Win? I know it is $15 a month to subscribe. I heard they introduced a cash shop but do not know much about it.

How is the crafting in WoW? Do a lot of people craft for good profit? I love crafting... Don't care for crazy amounts of farming for money.

What is the community like?

Are you allowed to use an auto clicker? Not a bot. In the game I play we are allowed to use it for crafting and opening "Dirty" items to save the hand work, as long as we don't afk.

Is the PVP and PVM difficult? I've seen the amount of hotkeys people have for battle, gotta say it's intimidating!

What is the population like? I know it's the biggest p2p MMO out there, but I was just listening to a reputable podcast mentioning they lost 1m subscribers recently.

I'm so close to buying it! But I would just like to hear from what some of the WP Gamers would say. Thx in advance...

Blizzard just laid off 600 employees (link). This does not bode well for the future of WoW.

That is interesting. I wonder what those people had to do with. They say not related to development...

I don't know about the future of WoW but, having played it for 2 years, I can tell you that it can be an entertaining waste of time if you have time to spare. There are plenty of things to do every day/week that keeps you coming back.

I've heard good things about SWToR from a couple of people as well and, since that one is pretty new, now might be the time to jump on board.

I agree. SWTOR looked interesting. It may be a bit for my pc though. I also hate their character models, especially that big fat guy. WoW worked on an old 6 or so years old pc of mine very well and the graphics are cartoony but not too cartoony.

That is interesting about having things to do every day or week. I like that as long as it is not boring.

I have a nephew who fired up WoW when he was 12. After about 2 month's play he quit saying it was "too easy, boring, no challenge".

Blizzard went for the cash and made a once very challenging and entertaining game easy enough for idiots to play. They lose a large number of subscribers every time they release an expansion because the new items that drop from trash mobs are as good as, if not better, than those items people have spent time earning. This angers players into voting with their feet.

The game is now populated with a lot of losers and obsessives, either type not very entertaining. There are still some players who are a laugh to be with, but they are few and far between.

If you wish to play it then create a trial account and download the game. This lets to you to lvl 20 and allows a lot of freedom, without requiring a subscription. It also lasts indefinitely; you can play for free for as long as you wish. I have just such an account and have a few twinks which I take into the battlegrounds for PvP. Very entertaining time to be had. I won't pay to play anymore as I believe the game has been screwed over by the many mistakes made by Blizz in their dash-for-cash, and is no longer worth the monthly fee for the lack of real entertainment.

Hmm...

I hate that about games... When they dumb it down so it is more "user friendly".... in order to gain more customers. New expansions adding new and more valuable stuff makes sense, but if it towers over past expansions stuff that's not something I think I would like.

That makes sense. The game I played has gone down a bad route and now a large portion of the people who remain are addicts who aren't nice to be around but don't want to stop playing since they dedicated so much time and money to the game, a holes, and hardcore pvp'ers.

I tried the WoW fre trial many times. Didn't like it... Was bored with the leveling process and not being able to party. I think if the game is fun at lvl cap, getting through the lvling process could be worth it. I rarely enjoy leveling in games anyway.

Thanks for the message... I will keep it in mind.

In my experiance, the community is dominated by elitist jerks. The easier it gets, the more you cross people who try to control you. It felt wanderful to leave.

Rofl

Everything said about the WoW community is very true in my experience. The game has gotten pretty easy and yet people still fail to clear content. You have to have a pretty thick skin at times because there are a lot of douches. This is true of almost every online community I've ever been a part of (WP being the only exception). I believe this is because the internet allows people a reprocussion-free environment where they feel allowed to speak their true mind because no one can do anything to them. People stay polite irl because of the consequences (loss of job/friends, or even being arrested, etc). I am a subscriber in the "people are jerks deep down" partially because of this online phenomenon.

The attitude of the community doesn't bother me that much, I play just to play for the most part. But it is a social game so you do have to interact with people. For the most part, the people in my guild are alright and you can just shrug your shoulders at the morons in trade or the ret*ds who try to flame you.

I'm sure SWTOR will end up the same way. People are people after all.

I tried my hand at wow and found it so full of kids and people that at like kids(for a full day i was followed by a level 80 death knight asking for "lol sed me nud pick plz" and when I said no called me every dirty name he knew and none spelled right)

I am now on dcou and it's so much better. The classes are fun the story pulls me in. You don't need to read five pages to understand a quest. Kill stealing does not work.
