something i have noticed, is that when i am around my group of friends, and family, i act almost NT, but when in school, or by myself my Asperger's becomes very severe, and i can barely even interact. im very confused about this, but i have read that i have a symptom called selective-mutism that causes me to only speak to people i like.

I am the exact same way... I was actually pondering on the same thing earlier today, so it is a huge coincidence that you should post this. :P. But in groups of people that make me uncomfortable, I can actually become almost mute... It becomes hard for me to say anything really. But around people that I like or feel comfortable around, I feel as if I am NT. I guess it all comes down to confidence. When I am feeling confident in my environment, I feel like I can step out of the boundaries that my "disorder" places on me. But when I am stricken with anxiety, I crawl into my shell and act very odd.

I've got Borderline Personality Disorder, my personality changes with every room I walk into and with the different times of the day.
Unfortunately, not one of them is even relatively NT.

You just have different sides of your personality and people you're comfortable around, that's all. Happens to a lot of people, even NTs. Unless you black out and lose your memory a lot and have people getting upset at something they think you did or hear one of your alternative personalities speaking to you, then I doubt it's MPD/DID. I apologize if you didn't literally mean that you had MPD/DID, though.

Sempiternal is right; this is true for everyone.

I find it much easier to talk to those I have known for a long time like many because I know what to expect and general motives from them. Strangers are worrisome for the lack of that.
