Its just the Solistice. The Earth will keep spinning as it always has I am not the least bit worried about that. Yellowstone the Supervolcano however I truly am worried about if it blows it can cause the next ice age let alone whipe out 75% of the population of the midwest United States!Glabal Warming is another possibility but thats nothing and moot if yellowstone erupts because an ice age will trump global warming!

Omyhgod! what happens when your odometer reaches 99,999.9 miles. Does it mean that your car is going to disappear in a puff of smoke or fall to pieces?

We are like native Americans compared to a more advanced civilization.

I think it will be the year before 2113.

I've heard things about a solar flare, but not from reputable sources.

Solar flares are a prevalent danger. Another biggy be when the poles decide to swap polarities. Whew..would not like to see that. Not to even mention comets and asteroids headed our way. As a Wise King once said..Man who is born of woman is short of days and full of trouble. Now I subscribe to the scientific hypothesis that the Mayan dude had his calendar nicely carved when he ran out of round rocks and ended up not having enough surface area to continueth. Now I tend to over simplify stuff..which is part of my well documented negative traits. Kindly correct my thinking here. Thanks.

There is no more advanced civilization than the current one.

From what I understand, the Mayan calendar is cyclic, and one such cycles ends at 2012. That's why ruveyn's example of a car reaching 99.999,99 miles is actually a good metaphor for it, some people think something big will happen, but others say that when the current cycle ended, they just started with a new one.

Hostess has gone out of business- just this past month.

That means no more twinkies, ho-hos, ding dongs, and nor sno-balls.

Thats surely a sign that the world is coming to an end.

The 2013 edition of the Mayan calendar isn't for sale on Amazon; so it must be the end of the world.

I think that now that they have to come out with a new calander, they will have one with hot guys and one with hot girls. Probably photoshopped into apocolyptic situations.

"Men of the Mayan Apocolypse, 2013"
and
"Ladies of the Maya Apocolypse 2013"

Of course they will cost a lot more than regular calanders, because they will have a whole bunch more years in them.

That's my belief.
