I don't think I'll ever develop social skills (drug use)

I've been smoking marijuana for the past years, and the drug's known for stimulating the emotional parts of the brain. I'm definitely not trying to advocate using it, but I honestly felt like I saw a glimpse into how normal people use their social skills; when I'm high, I'd watch people on TV and people in real life, and I can realize how people use their intellect and throw quirky jabs at each other and are playful dancing in their dialogues. When I'm sober, I can sorta try and pick up on those queues in hopes of learning those social skills but it's not the same as when I'm high. It's like being blind then having vision for a few hours.

Is that just the normal effects of the drugs to make me appreciate everything or is there really a veiled realm of social wit that's behind its door?

I really don't know. Marijuana made it harder for me to think-- being less able to use cognitive processing, I was less able to function. Whatever it did for my social skills, it did by making it easier for me to get lost in my own world (and therefore easier to just not talk, period).

That was my case, though. Might not be the same for you.

It's an interesting question, at any rate.

It's a well-known illusion that marijuana use makes everything seem better-than-life. Maybe you thought that you gained some deep insight into human social interactions, but to the sober people around you, you probably just seemed stoned...

(Note: I'm not judging you--I quite enjoy puffing the whacky tobaccy myself--but it is important to realize that the sensations you experience while high are not "real." If you want permanent change in your life, you need to learn to do it without drugs.)

Marijuana can make me giggly. It may seem like its giving you some insight but I do recall rolling on the floor with a friend laughing our heads off at some daytime soap. And watching Star Trek and thinking every single statement was some sort of hilarious innuendo. So, I wouldn't exactly trust your "insights" while on it.

That's something I've noticed with pot myself. When watching TV shows or movies, I find myself more emotionally connected to the characters and just more emotionally aware. It makes it easier to pick up on certain cues I would otherwise miss. These emotions rarely carry over when I'm sober. I still care for the characters somewhat, but it's not as strong.

In terms of conversation and interaction, weed shuts me down completely. I mean, I'm completely silent for 1/2 an hour to 45 minutes and then usually I laugh at something completely inappropriate and then I'm silent for another 1/2 hour. So basically socially catatonic
I think maybe as a sidenote though: TV and SitComs in general are not normal human interaction. In normal interaction, a lot of those good natured SitCom jabs would be offensive and could get you into trouble.

Sometimes marijuana can really exaserbate my depression and anxiety, other times I end up having a really enjoyable time and doing unexpected things. Usually situations where I have a good time are situations where I'm already doing a couple things to make myself feel better. I wouldn't advocate it, unless you enjoy it! Then go for it, lol.

I'm either allergic to marijuana or easily overdose on it. I smoked it once, went freaking out in the street, then somehow ended up being strapped to a gurney and wheeled off to a hospital for 3 days. I even had a seizure in the hospital because they gave me Haldol. It froze my tongue and I couldn't talk. Never again.

Hard to say for sure. But, I've seen many more people who though they were understanding extraordinary [1] things when they were high, only to have no access to these insights once the high wore off.

[1] Extraordinary for their particular experiences and memories.

I hate weed, it makes me paranoid and up for hours. Last time I smoked weed though, I took notes about what I was thinking cause I wanted to remember it, so I do feel you.

Weed culture is probably the best for most of us cause its the most laid back. Don't be getting into that other s**t. It just causes problems.

If they are not real how are you feeling them?

Yes, smoking marijuana used to make me feel more connected to pretty much anything - but particularly characters on shows, which I would tend to watch over and over again because it felt like I was getting some sort of interaction, albeit vicariously.
Still, I decided to quit and it has been good all round - although I simply don't interact socially.
So yeah - it's the drugs - although bear in mind that TV series are a carefully constructed (and directed, and produced) form of entertainment, so the cues that you think you are more sensitive to were actually put there for a reason and don't reflect real life, since in real life nobody will spell things out for you like that.

I heard MDMA acts as a 'socializing cure' for ASD, which explains why I'm trying to buy some. Unfortunately, the only people I know who managed to buy drugs have left work - married or moved away - and lost contact. So I'm stumped with all this research and no product!

And yes, I know it's not good for your brain, but it's going to bloody waste staying like this. I don't even care for a career anymore, I'd settle for a partner and some good friends.

Other than that, I'm going to stay a steady social alcoholic...

Every time I tried it but one time I felt nothing. The one time I did feel something I remember standing in my friend's kitchen and feeling like my head was almost hitting the ceiling. After that I was sick for days.
