Is this a forum for hackers, anonymous members and people who pretend they have aspergers?!

I have made some critical and very true remarks about 4chan and after that I have experienced problems with my antivirus programme and firewall. I don't think that this is a coincidence. My laptop is relatively new and I think it is sick to do something like this to innocent people, just because they don't agree with you. If you are smart enough to hack into someones computer you are also smart enough to do something useful with that knowledge. Use it for a better cause instead of this petty stuff. I do understand that some guys do nasty stuff on their computers because they can't get laid but it is never to late to redirect that frustration and better your life.

I am definitely going to do something about this. If this forum is the cause of my problems I'm going to report Wrong Planet as well because I am fed up with this. Some people may think it's funny to ruin someone else's new laptop but that is such a cowardly and infantile thing to do that it actually turns my stomach.

Let this be a warning to other Wrong Planet visitors. There are obviously some people on this forum who don't have good intentions and therefore pretend they have aspergers. You will definetely hear from me again because I am not going to let this matter rest!! Bye for now.

Assuming the problems were caused by someone, how exactly is WP responsible? I'm not following your logic here. Those people are everywhere on the internet, including WP. You may as well report the Internet.

Asperger's is not a synonym for saintly. There are people with AS who have bad intentions and people with AS who don't, same as any other group. AS isn't a cure for a-holes.

But aspergers is a synonym for honesty and rigid moral values. Remember that!

Rigid moral values doesn't necessarily mean good or valid values.

Sounds more like your PC caught one of the many, many viruses/malware, etc. that are infesting the internet. Do more frequent updates, and upgrade your virus program. Are you using AVG antivirus program. It is a good one that has free versions you can download right off the web, from their web site. You should also go to KimKomando.com to see what her site recommends. Her site has a lot of free downloads. Kim Komando is a computer and tech geek. She has a once a week radio show on Saturdays from 10am-1pm. It is rebroadcast on different stations at different times and days of the week. She takes calls from listeners to help them with their problems, during the Saturday broadcast, and gives away lots of free tech stuff. Her web site has a lot of help advice for those who miss the broadcasts. I believe you can also get podcasts of episodes that have already aired, if you register with the site.

So, do your updates and upgrades, and listen to Kim Komando. Or you can just have a melt down, instead. I know which I'd prefer. Good luck fixing your laptop. :D

Are there people on WP who pretend to be on the spectrum? Hmm...what do they have to gain by doing that?

Nope.
Whenever you make a critical remark about trolls, anonymous or would be hackers here they immediately show their presence on this forum. That happened more than once here. Besides, my antivirus software is good enough to protect my computer from random viruses and malware. I don't trust free downloades because a lot of these downloades infect your computer with all kinds of s**t.

Pokerface, I highly recommend MalwareBytes. Given the posting formats, picking up malware (virus, trojan, etc) from viewing posts is unlikely, but the things they're doing with ad banners these days are truly astounding -- it is possible for a bad banner to show up on a perfectly normal site.

I would strongly advise you to change your passwords from a different computer that has been scanned clean!

No anti-virus software is good enough to protect against every threat. Since I research what I download first, I have as little trouble with free downloads as with paid ones. There is some good, free stuff out there, and AVG is better than many paid programs. Symantec is junk, I cleared McAfee off my system after noticing suspicious behaviour from it, reporting that on their forums and seeing others report exactly the same thing, then coming back and discovering they had deleted those posts with no explanation. But even AVG will not take care of everything. Malware Bytes is another good one, but again, it is not enough. You need to have a regular scanner running all the time (never two, because the conflict will make a real mess), then you need to keep a few other choices on hand so you can pause your regular scanner and run one of the others whenever you think something might be going on.

And in addition to a firewall and anti-malware scanner, you need a good HOSTS file. I've got one with thousands of entries, and it does a pretty good job of keeping the crap off my system. It often does a better job than anything else. Of course, you've got to make sure you don't get one of those lists that excludes half the internet just because the servers host ads (I don't love ads, but as long as they do no harm, I'm not prepared to lose my ability to visit many sites just to keep from having to see them).

As for the cause of your problems, I don't have enough knowledge to offer a useful opinion. It might be one or more jerks here on Wrong Planet - but there are isolated jerks on just about every site I've ever visited. In fact, the most well-run site I know of occasionally gets them; the only difference is that it is policed well enough that they don't last long. Which takes an enormous amount of work on their part, and the site is a tiny community, less than a third the size of this one. As long as you rant against whoever is causing you problems, I agree with you, but I think you're being unfair in blaming Wrong Planet just because you might have run into those jerks here. Heck, the site I mentioned isn't perfect, and if I annoyed someone on there, and they came after my home system without leaving traces on the site itself, the mods there would have no way to know who it was, so they couldn't ban them. And I promise you, the site I'm thinking of (it's one for writers) would bring the banhammer right down on their heads if they got caught at anything like that. But they can only do it if the problem happens on their site. How is anyone on Wrong Planet supposed to know who the jerks are if they're not attacking you on here, just tracking you down somehow and attacking your home system. (Which, I agree, is well beyond lame as a response to someone you disagree with.)
