I like anime. But I hate anime fans. Reason why I say this is because back in high school, anime was my thing and mine alone. Because few people were into it if any, I could use it as a safe haven from the world. But in college, I joined an anime club. But the people there were complete jerks. I was even thrown out because some of them seem to enjoy spreading rumors. Now what I found safety in from the jerks of the world now inhabited jerks. When I first went to the club, I remember some one saying "Everybodies weird. Just be yourself and they'll like you." Yeah, they were weird, as in pretentious and joked around too much. And as for being myself, I was as polite as I knew how and as nice as I was. Well, who ever said that was obviously a lier, and a creep. The issue isn't the number of people into anime. Just the way they are jerks. Has any one had experiances where a hobby they treassured became s**t because the people around you who were into it were just creeps?

I am into anime too, but I have never really joined any clubs, well I joined a forum, and luckilly chose one that has acting reasonably mature, and manners as rules, so I avoided comming against the worst of the fans, but they are still out there. Except say people who bash something for no good reason, and like starting fights, or getting people angry.
My favourite current airing shows are Acchi Kocchi, Haiyore! Nyaruko-san, and I think Dusk Maiden of Amnessia.
I don't think that the person who told you to be yourself meant harm, they probably just thought that you could connect with those people over your hoby, but things do not always work out.

I understand how you feel. I enjoy anime but I don't socialize with other anime fans (outside of WrongPlanet that is). Though in my case it's not because of jerks so much as it is because of the general immaturity and sometimes creepiness in the behavior of other anime fans. I don't want to be associated with those kinds of people.
But please note that I'm not lumping every anime fan into that category; I'm just talking about the extremes.
Would this be a good time to tell peeps how much I would like the anime fandom to be burnt, destroyed, sealed in concrete and dumped in the ocean?

I love anime but don't really fully click into the clubs I am fine with other anime fans its the ones that become wapanese or weebos I even I cannot stand at times. Butchering Japanese and saying Kawaii too many times. I sometimes want to tell them they are an embarassment to otaku everywhere, but I usually keep to myself over time they will learn on their own.
Yeah I love anime but i dont try and go way overboard.

Maybe you should direct all that hate toward something actually worth destroying/abolishing.
I don't really love anime since the term is so broad and covers many types of shows. I think Akira and movies such as Barefoot Gen and Graveyard of The Fireflies are brilliant, but I rate them up there with actual movies, not anime. I love (most of) Universal Century Gundam, most notably Zeta and the MS Team and Operation Stardust OVAs but I really don't feel like that makes me an anime fan. I'm not really a fan of the style though, again, I think there are some really talented mangaka.
With that said, I really don't hate the fandom at all. I think its a bit silly and annoying sometimes, I also roll my eyes when art students only want to draw in the traditional big eyed anime style. For example, last week I went to an artshow at the school I take painting classes at and there were all these nice water color paintings, charcoal drawings etc and in the far right corner someone had actually submitted several amateurishly done drawings..that I can only assume were fanart of some kind. Looked so out of place and I actually felt embarrassed for the student.
What I hate is when a person acts like everything from Japan is superior and refuses to broaden their horizons, just like when I hate someone that automatically dismisses a person for liking any anime or manga at all. I've never joined an anime club or desired to but I think its cool if someone loves something enough to want to organize one. I like tabletop wargaming which equates to adults painting what are essentially little (overpriced) plastic toymen while arranging make believe battles on a table with terrain (playsets)..so I try to keep in mind any stones flung toward a particular fandom come from a giant glasshouse on a hill.
Being an literal otaku is an embarrassment, in Japan at least. You probably know this though, but its a highly derogative term in Japan..but then again it carries a similar weight to "aspie". The worst thing ever is when people try to talk in Japanese, I feel less hate and more burning humiliation for them.
Is the anime fandom still going that strong? I know tons of kids watch Naruto but I felt like it peaked(number not quality wise) in the early to mid 2000s. I don't get out very much though or even watch tv, so it might just be that. I don't think its dying out, just felt its popularity might be showing signs of waning.

Well yeah, Otaku means geek or nerd. I am a nerd I guess you can say so just like in the west being called a nerd is is an embaressment to the general populous but I stopped caring. I am an aspie and a nerd who likes anime nothing more and nothing less. It is like at a comic book convention and a nerd goes overboard it is equally as annoying. I find it funny though that alot of these folks want to live in japan and I ask them how are you going to afford it and plus do you have a carreer? if you do not youl just be another homeless gaijin. Oh yeah side note in order to get Japanese citizenship you have to give up citizenship in your home country, also even if your a citizen your not Japanese you never will be, you will also be called gaijin now gaijin isnt always derogetory it just means a person from outside. As an aspie it makes little difference however if you plan on living in japan etc make plans get a degree and a carreer first then maybe you can make it. In the west otaku isn't so derogatory, you are right about it in japan. They will say "what an otaku" its like in the west like ''what a nerd!!'' I wholeheartedly agree with you it is annoying when people say Japan and all stuff Japanese are superior in every way and funny thing is they never lived in japan or been there. Yes Japan makes great electronics and cars that are awesome in reliability but so does Korea in the electronics department and American cars? well were not there in reliability but were getting there and performance most of our cars smoke most imports not all mind you but thats a different topic. Yes I am Otaku I like anime but I also have a life outside of it and also did thorough research in the Japanese culture. Oh and for folks who try to speak in Japanese in Japan speak it correctly take lots of classes, do not butcher the language and furthermore just because you speak Japanese doesnt mean your Japanese you never will be Japanese unless you are born with Japanese blood. Yeah Anime is awsome and pretty big in Japan but thats not their main thing in culture, that is like saying Marvel comics DC comics and cartoons are the main thing in American culture. I am fairly obsessed with anime but I am wise and know what is what but I do not go overboard on it and am an unbiased person. I love things like anime but I also love Marvel comics like X-men etc not one is better than the other.

Anime never really sparked an interest in me. Whenever I tried to watch some and maybe understand the story line, I would quickly be distracted by the distinct artistic displays like characters that never open their eyes! Lol I recently "obtained" a Street Fighter anime movie and will try to watch it. I've been a long-term fan of Street Fighter games and enjoyed the motion picture with Van Damme. Maybe I'll post up a review of it.

When I was younger I gave anime a chance. I saw quite a few - Ghost In The Shell, Akira, Sailor Moon, many others. As the years went by the stories made less and less sense. You just had to accept things as they are with no explanation. This irked me to no end and I stopped watching. Sorry. My aspie mind cries out for logic, and when it's non-existent, I disappear.

I used to watch Sailor Moon & DBZ, and later, any anime on Adult Swim...I OWN the Evangelion series and movies...amazing show! Not really a hobby, but I'm an INTP, and used to hang out on INTP Central...just a bunch of a**holes trying to out-asshole eachother...no thanks!

I have just starting to get into anime recently. I liked Sailor Moon as a teenager, but am just starting to watch all the episodes again, and I am now buying the manga books for it as well. I am also starting to watch Tokyo Mew Mew. I am not too far into the series yet, but so far I really like it. I plan on watching other shows as well but I want to have too many going at the same time.

One of my most favorite anime series's I finished watching is Inuyasha great soundtrack beautiful music and I love the scenery of ancient feudal Japan also in a way I can relate to Inuyasha being a half demon is alot like being an aspie in a way always feeling out of place and treated by an outsider by both demons and humans.
