Anyone else into comics?

EDIT: I should have been more clear; comics, as in comic books.

Hmm... as in comic books? I haven't really ever gotten into them, but I am a big fan of Calvin and Hobbes.

Calvin and Hobbes is awesome, but I was referring to comic books.

yeah. i like comics. right now im reading astonishing x-men and dial H for hero(because i love china mieville). theyre both recent additions. i used to read batwoman but stopped after she got under that governmental agencys thumb. i used to read detective comics when batman was the main character but cut myself off when batman rip happened. i wont get back on because the most prominent, well portrayed wheel chair bound character in the dcu and all of comic-dom is no longer in a wheel chair and is parading around calling herself batgirl at her age. all the character developement she went through seems compressed and worthless now. i used to read daredevil back in highschool but my allowance and the storyline interfered with that. i also used to read hellblazer but the guy is bisexual and hasnt had a boyfriend in like ever but he has had a million girlfriends. if he was a girl he'd be having same sex sex scenes and this ticks me off. i also like the classics- millers daredevil, the sandman, watchmen, maus, dykes to watch out for, grells green arrow, the question from the 1980s, uncanny x-men from the 80s, etc

I love Green Lantern comics. Downloaded every single one I could find and have been reading them for months now :D I'd like to get into others too.

Neil Gaiman, yes? He's an incredible writer.

Webcomics FTW! I love xkcd, Poorly Drawn Lines, Cyanide and Happiness, even The Oatmeal...

What story arc are you at in Astonishing?
Oh yes, Hellblazer. Not one of my favourites; stopped reading around issue 93 or something. It was at the point where the story hadn't been going anywhere meaningful for a long time and the writer just kept on trying to make each issue more bloody and 'gritty' than the last. On the plus side, it taught me quite a bit about England.
What's your favourite X-men arc?

Have you read Whedon's Astonishing, VMSmith?

I honestly limit myself to superhero comics. I know, I know, that's pretty bad. If you put me in the comic books section of the library, I'll start reading anything, though... Comedy, sci-fi, fantasy, western... but I never remember the titles or authors or artists.
At this point, I mostly like reading older Marvel comics, from the 70s and 80s. I was reading Captain America's Nomad story arc written by Steve Englehart at the laundromat the other day. Great stuff! I'm always trying to sell people on Steve Englehart's work.

Up until I was about 10 I liked the Archies and Richie Rich. I also liked the Peanuts paperback books. I also liked Dennis the Menace.

Wow, you sound pretty well versed. What got you started on reading comics?

Actually not very well-versed at all! It's just that I used to hang out at a comic book forum a lot, so I soaked up some of the knowledge of the more hardcore fans through reading threads.

My first introduction to comics was actually this:

From Transformers I moved on to X-Men and Spider-Man in the late 90s, though I always preferred reading the older comic books to current ones, even back then.

As for non-superhero stuff, my mother had a couple of albums (but not a lot) she had inherited from my grandfather who is a huge fan of comic books.

I like the X-Men reference in your user name. I take it you're a Grant Morrison fan?
