Often when I'm getting dressed in the morning or having a bath at night, I discover a bright red scratch on my stomach or chest or upper legs, or a small bruise on my knee or elbow, but I have no idea how I done it. Some people say I must scratch myself in the night, but with nails as short and blunt as mine, they can't even scratch butter. And if I try scratching myself on purpose with my fingernails, I cannot do it at all, but when I find a random scratch it looks like I've walked through a prickly hedge. Also I have no idea how they get on my tummy or chest because usually they are covered with clothes. The other day I even found a really long, glowing red scratch right across my tummy, in the shape of a walking stick, and God knows how that got there. A few years ago I woke up and found my finger was bleeding, and there was a big scab that I was sure wasn't there the night before, and it took ages to heal up and I've still got the scar today. Surely I can't of done that in my sleep, I have no sharp objects in my room to make that sort of scratch on my finger, and it was in a place where nothing could really get to it (right between my index finger and middle finger).

Anyone else find scratches or bruises and have no idea where they come from? Do you know how they form like that?

Yeah I get them too, I usually get them on my knees because I always bump them against the seat ahead of me when I'm on the public transport (aka bus). The ones on my hips are stretch marks and look like they are there for the rest of my life.

Sometimes my clothes can cause bruises too from the sharp edges and sometimes i get insect bites.

I get random scratches, part from probably scratching myself during sleep or, recently I sliced my arm on something in the kitchen and noticed it was bleeding but I don't know how it happened.

Yes I get them. I see it as no big deal because they always go away. I don't get scratches often.

Yes, all the time. I mean, I know I'm clumsy, but I guess I never think of it, as it never really hits home until I change my clothes and see a fresh bruise on my leg, a scratch on my arm, or dried (and sometimes wet) blood on my finger. I'd read that sometimes random bruises can happen when you have certain nutritional deficiencies, but my doctor did a blood test about 7 months ago that showed I'm perfect on everything except Vitamin D (which I've been taking supplements of since then.) So... I really must just be that clumsy/numb to the pain. :?

It's gotten to the point where sometimes I just go, "Huh. I'm bleeding again," and my boyfriend is not surprised in the least.

(Edit: Actually, my boyfriend drew a funny picture of me once. It was a stick-figure me holding two full pitchers, tripping over a random rock as I go, "Oops!" with the caption below saying, "in her natural state" :P )

I get random scratches and bruises too. The weirdest one is the scratch I always get on my collarbone that I find when I get out of the shower. I never remember itching or scratching there, but it happens almost every night. Weird :?

Yes, I have a lot of bruises. Maybe they are caused by running around the house or hypertension.

Yes, often. Scratches are usually minor, but sometimes I do find relatively big and painful bruises that I don't remember getting.

Yes!! All the time. It's because I'm such a klutz and because I get bruised pretty easily.

I also get random scratches, cuts and bruises and I don't know how I get them, or where they come from.

All the time. Scratches, bruises, cuts- scars, even. I have no recollection of them whatsoever. Some even start to hurt later for no apparent reason.

Yes, and it seems to be happening more frequently as of late.

I counted the bruises on my legs a while ago because someone else mentioned it. I came out at 17, and there were a few on my arms as well which are not included in that number. I only knew how I got 1 or 2 of them.

I'm a bit clumsy and also not always aware of the dimensions of my body. For example: I frequently walk into a door frame because I forgot my shoulder also needs to fit through :)

The 'not knowing how I got my injuries' is mostly down to not really registering pain as it happens. It's not that I don't feel it but it sort of gets drowned out by everything else I'm seeing/feeling/thinking at the time. As a child I was usually too busy wondering what all the fuss was about to start crying or even notice that there might be a reason for that. 'Yes I fell, what's the problem? Oh, hey, blood on my knee, interesting....'

Sometimes. Eating potato chips in bed, then going to bed wearing only boxers might have something to do with it. Also, I hit my leg against the desk every now and then, when my chair is stuck again and I'm trying to get it out.
