So found another thread here about people who seemed to genuinely enjoy League of Legends.
I wanted to know if there was anyone else who had a hard time with the game.

I am level 13, but have some friends who are level 30. Being invited into their games is generally a terrible idea, because I apparently just do everything wrong and ruin the game for everyone. Of course the person having the least amount of fun is me.
I used to enjoy playing games with my friends, but this game really kills it for me.

Am I supposed to know all the different items and which way to build my character every game?
Am I supposed to know what everyone on my team and the opposing team are doing at all times?

I can't even keep track of my character when there are too many of them on screen at once.

I get the impression that you don't even begin LoL until you hit level 30. What a terrible grind. And worst of all, I have to show other people, both unforgiving and entitled by anonymity, how much longer it takes me to learn all this stuff than them.

I can't get into that game. Complicated, long, and full of ragers...

Yes and yes. Look up guides on solomid for the items and by time you'll learn to create your own builds/have insight in the possible moves any opponents can make.
Do you play on EU west? If you do, I'd be happy to play some games with you and give you some tips :)

Unfortunately, the dota genre has a harsh learning curve, and when you combine that with the general nastiness of online gaming, it can make breaking into it ridiculously hard.

Your best bet is to play the bots until you can comfortably beat them every time. Then, focus on playing non-ranked normal games. It'll take you around 250 games before you'll be familiar with most of the champions and items, unless you are seriously into studying or have admirable memory.

[edit] Also, personally I think Dominion is easier to learn than Summoner's Rift or Twisted Treeline.

He'll learn completely wrong things this way, though.

I think this is somewhat wrong, in a sense. For a person completely new to the DOTA genre, simply coming to understand things such as basic fighting, how to conrol the camera, how to control your character, learning to manage 4 abilities, etc are all very new things. Unless the player is coming from a background of WoW or is familiar with RTS games, they've got a TON of skills to learn before they even need to begin to worry about the differences between Dom and SR. Once they have a basic grasp of how this kind of game even works, THEN they can start going to SR if they find that's their thing. Otherwise, Dom provides the better learning environment imo for learning the very basics of the game, because Dom tends to have more non-stop action with which to learn them.

I guess I should have stopped the thread here. I actually meant this sarcastically, like "What, you want me to read everything on the internet about the game before I start playing it?"
But I guess you were serious. In which case, forget it.

I can't tell if I am graduating from games, which have been a special interest for about as long as I can remember, or if the games of today have simply turned into something that I can no longer relate to.
In any case, though I have done my fair share of raging at a screen, for me games will always be about that journey of imagination, or an exciting sport with friends.
Where imagination is monetised, and 'exciting' trades for 'stressful', is where I draw the line.

However, I wish the best of luck to my junior generation. Let me know what you find.

Just got into it about 2 days ago, but so far I have not met any ragers. I do very well against bots, granted I have a good team. I can easily be the best character there with Teemo. But I most likely won't be interested in it for long. But I enjoy it while I do.

You realize, you are talking about a competitive, online game, right? If you aren't prepared to put in quite a bit of effort to get good, then these kind of games are not for you, unless you're content with being a noob for most of the time that most other players will readily defeat.

You want to play single player games or cooperative online games, not competitive online games where you are faced against other players. If you want some good games you can play that might be more your style, here's a list to check out:

Mass Effect series
Dragon Age series
Diablo 3
Kinect Sports
Batman: Arkham Asylum/Arkham City
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Fallout: New Vegas
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword
GoldenEye 007

I've kept the systems and game varieties mixed up for you. Hope this helps.

I don't really like competition that much. The enemy that I get motivated to fight against is myself.
But unlike other games I've played, LoL is so socially demanding; I'm apparently under the scrutiny of 9 other people for over half an hour - half of those people are meant to be on my side.

I find it incredibly difficult to learn in that environment. That's kind of why I posted this here, to see if someone else would relate to my frustration from a autistic point of view.

Though I guess I did forget to look at it as a competitive game.

In that regard, you're hardly alone. One of the unfortunate realities of online gaming is that, due to how comparatively consequence-free it is to say whatever horrible things you want, they will. I know, it's sad and depressing to know that it's literally only that fact which is holding these people back from behaving this way IRL. The only thing you can really do is have really thick skin and learn to not really give a f**k what anyone acting like a dickhead thinks.

To be honest, when I was a noob to the dota genera, I would laugh my ass off at how pissed off and frustrated the a**holes would get. Like....knowing that my noobiness was making some jerk suffer was just funny to me. Try doing the same! Turn the situation into a laugh, cause honestly, if you're having fun and these guys are having a horrible time while being jerks, then it's like delicious irony and justice.

Don't worry about doing things wrong. People don't get the mechanics or League of Legends until 600 games in. No joke. I don't expect much from players on my team with less then 300 games won.

Do know this though, the game matches you half the time with other people in your skill level. So half your games should be with people as good as you. Half the OTHER times though, you get matched with people better than you purposely in order to get you to lose. Some people that are too good in the game, have something called 'elo hell' if they play the game always works against them to make them lose with a bad team.

If you reach level 30 and are too scared that people will be mad if you play a new champion that is free. Make a new lvl-1 account and practice the free champion on that account. They call them 'smyrf accounts'. It is very commonly done.
