Also, you can force yourself to evaluate things and search for alternate explainations. Keeping a "scorecard" to see which explaination has the most points may be one way to force yourself to stop.

Personally, i think that jumping to the wrong conclusions makes life interesting, and it certainly makes someone think about what they've said, though it can be embarrassing if you do it often or have to apologise, though really it isn't your fault if someone failed to explain something completely.

You could try waiting before you speak, or ask someone to clarify if you are not sure of their meaning, admittedly, some people can find it annoying if you keep on askingthem to reapeat themselves, of course, you could always refrain from commenting or thinking anything if you are not sure.
