I have actually been around here a while back, but as it has in fact been a while it seemed sensible to post here.
So, anyways, about myself: I guess I've always known myself to be different from everybody else, always found socialising etc to be pretty exhausting and only ever had a small number of people I could ever really get anywhere with. I started looking into things a few years back and found that a lot of the traits that I exhibited were consistent with the definition of Asperger syndrome; in fact, I was pretty surprised to find that many of the weird things I did, that seemed so bizarre that surely nobody else in the world would ever exhibit them, were in fact quite common or even stereotypical traits. I put off seeking a formal diagnosis for a while, but now I've finally bitten the bullet and I'm having my first of three diagnostic assessments tomorrow. Which is both exciting and nerve-wracking.
Stuff I'm into: had a long standing interest in chemistry since I was 8, somewhat shifted my focus towards biology these last few years. Am very interested in potential treatments for aging; i.e. methods to undo the various forms of damage to the body that gradually accumulate over time and eventually make all sorts of horrible things happen - eg Alzheimer's, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, osteoporosis etc.
That will probably do for now; I'm not all that great at introduction type things.
