Anyone else read everything they see when they are bored?

In school I would read the text books to kill time. now I read what ever I can get my hands on. now days Its what ever is around me. like today I was waiting 15 minutes to meet someone so I picked up my cars manual and ended up reading the entire thing.

Sort of...I usually do it when I'm driving, or when I'm in the passenger seat. I obsessively check license plates...almost every car I pass unless it presents a hazard...which it sometimes almost does. And street signs, bilboards and stuff...but I get annoyed if there are too many for me to read before we pass by.

Yeah, I do this too. Well, I don't quite read everything. I tend to limit it to books on science, at least with regard to nonfiction. Occasionally I'll read something outside of science as long as it has some kind of thread that ties it back to science- I'm obsessive like that. I'll try to find loopholes in my own "reading rules," so that I can convince myself to read books that look interesting but are outside the realm of science. For example, if I were to see a book on art history that I wanted to read, I would tell myself that many people consider history a social science, so it's okay. Other than that, I'll read anything fictional that I see. And this is quite a significant attribute of mine since I spend about half of my free time hanging out in a bookstore. I've read an absurd amount of books this summer, and every summer before. It's kind of tiresome, because sometimes I just can't stop reading even when I want to. It's useful, though. A detailed/accurate Aspie memory combined with constant access to books covering many different topics results in me having immediate access to a lot of information, which is fun.

I used to read a lot of books but after I discovered the internet I stopped reading so many books. now I will just search anything that comes to mind and read about it.

Very much so! When I don't have access to my normal reading materials I will read anything. Street signs, bulletin boards, brochures, whatever. When bored, my reflex is to begin reading. If I go for too long without reading, I go into a sort of "reading withdraw" . In this state I obsessively read everything in sight until I gain access to a book, at which point I bury myself in the book, largely unresponsive to outside stimuli, until the panic recedes and I am able to interact with people more or less normally (usually after half an hour or more).
