Equally dangerous.
A gun can kill faster and further, however it is loud, somewhat unwieldy in close quarters, and once you run out of ammunition worthless as a deadly weapon.
A knife is silent, doesn't run out of ammo, can be thrown for a good distance, can be made out of materials that security measures won't detect, and can be smaller.

Firearms can kill at a great distance. No so with knives. The kill radius of a knife is under 50 or 60 feet, where as a sniper rifle can kill at a distance of one mile.

Sure knives are more or equally dangerous. That's why developement was ceased and every army uses knife as primary weapon

At least this is amusingly absurd:

Well, I say knives are MORE dangerous because they give a false sense of security. They are more dangerous to the carrier than to an attacker--in particular smart attackers who carry GUNS.

Guns, without a doubt.

Guns can be fired from a distance, where as with knifes the attacker has to be up close and can more often than not be disarmed if you know how...it's not as easy to disarm someone with a gun as even if up close there's high risk of accidental misfire. Guns also have the problem of different bullets etc. which can have hugely different effects on the damage done, a bullet can also more easily pass through bone and cause catastrophic damage. To use a knife you have to be up close and you have to make a conscious decision to cause harm to a person by your own hands, where as with a gun there need be no thought involved as it's just pulling a trigger.

Both are extremely deadly when in the right hands, and both have pros and cons. Armies still supply knives and bayonets to their troops along with their sidearms. If you are carrying concealed, it's still a good idea to carry a knife as well.

Depends upon what's meant by "dangerous". I've hurt myself far more often and far more severely with knives than guns over the years, but I use knives as tools far more often than I use guns, with the vast majority of my gun related injuries being minor pinches and scrapes received while maintaining or assembling/disassembling them. I've had a few hot brass down the shirt incidents while actually shooting, and have seen a few cases of scope or slide bite, but nothing too serious. Now if something were to go wrong while I was handling a gun there is more potential for damage to both myself and others, but good handling practices and safety awareness can minimize the chances of anything going that far off the rails.

From a weapon perspective it's situational, but I'll give the gun the edge most of the time. The knife does have a real element of surprise though, I can have one in my hand and ready to go without anyone being aware of it, and it's much trickier to do that with a gun, both physically and legally.

Guns are generally more dangerous weapons because it is much easier to kill from range with them. That's why our armies don't carry swords any more.

In some situations, the knife has the advantage (which is why our armies still carry them), but generally the gun will win.

Stop dreaming about "pistoleros" shooting whole clip in a blink of an eye - read about police safety drills, especially about Tuller Rule (called also Tuller Drill or 21feet rule)

http://www.bladefighting.com/21footrule.htm

"This drill demonstrates that the old gun guy saying "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight" is actually quite naive.
A gun is a long range close quarter combat weapon, a knife or a sword is a close range close quarter combat weapon. A gun in contact range is a liability, it can be disabled, jammed, made to go out of battery, lose the magazine, the hammer can be stopped, etc depending on the weapon. On the other hand, grabbing a knife is not a very successful strategy.

Many times at 21 feet the gun guy will dominate...but 21 feet is the FURTHEREST point where the sword guy started to be an IMMEDIATE danger. As the start distance gets less than 21 feet the person with the knife or sword starts to gain an advantage. And the news is that the knife guy will get closer before he attacks.

If you shoot someone as they charge with a sword, many times they won't be stopped. If however your arm or head is chopped off, that is the end of your ability to shoot a gun. Are you willing to trade two center mass hits on the bad guy to take a knife in your liver?

When you do this drill, keep in mind as the gun guy that you already know what is going to happen. On the street in real life you could very likely be surprised and not expecting this at all, which will slow reaction time and increase "fumble time.""

And remember - this rule counts for TRAINED policeman! not for civilian wannabe-commando
http://www.theppsc.org/Staff_Views/Tueller/How.Close.htm

If you got friends in police, I'm sure that they can tell you such story:
Man armed with handgun was stabbed to death by knife-fighting punk. He was so stressed, that he forget to turn safety on...

Happened many times inn many places...

So, for me, edged weapons and firearms are equally dangerous

If knives are equally dangerous as guns, then I am sure that all the guys wanting to protect their homes from thugs will be happy to do it with their kitchen knives.

Problem solved! We can ban guns now!

Shot guns have their uses. I would like to see how Dartangnan can cope with double shot directed at the torso.

In the wrong hands, they are equally dangerous.

In the right hands, they are not dangerous at all.

There was a guy in Utah who went around a store stabbing people until someone with a license to carry a firearm shot him.

Guns are awesome!! ! Knives are too but not as deadly so its harder to defend yourself with just a knife if someone has a gun pointed at you!!The old saying never bring a knife to a gun fight tends to ring a bell.
