Just been on a TM course, after a week I feel wonderful and I totally love it.

Teacher was a bit religious nuts, loads of barking mad stuff.

But loads and loads and loads of amazingly beautiful, well grounded neurology/psychology and very loving stuff too. You have to learn it their way, but its worth it if you can park the questions in a file named "i like you but your bonkers".
Anyone else do this?

I learned TM in 1973 and it helped quite a bit with what I later found out were anxiety and overload issues. It takes a lot of time and it's hard to stick with it over the long term so I only use it intermittently these days. I don't how they teach it today. I had to bring flowers to my first session. There were no heavy religious overtones. There was a long list of benefits they attributed to TM and some of them seemed a bit much to believe.

Mental discipline ... controlling your thought and moods ... good stuff to practice.

Keep the mystical, spiritual, faith-based woo-woo out of it, and TM has practical value.

I just tried meditation for the first time yesterday. It wasn't TM - just quietly sitting down, eyes closed, back straight, doing my best to focus on my breath. I attempted it for 15 minutes. It was interesting and I will be trying it again.

I'd like to hear more about TM. How does it differ from other forms of meditation?

How is it Transcendental without spirituality? The idea is to leave the mind behind, not lock yourself into a pattern of breathing. There has to be a beyond for you to go to. Every breath of life should be some form of Transcendental Meditation once you really start to get into it. Maybe the poetry some people use doesn't speak to others.
