Huzzah! One of my favorite board games, despite is longevity (as far as length in gameplay), is Monopoly. I dunno why, it's a fun game to have a conversation over, I feel.

That, and here in the US, the McDonald's Monopoly game gets me going there, even though my chances of winning any of the big prizes are infinitesimal. Who here likes this great game?

I love the original version. The fad versions leave me cold, and nostalgic for the original game.

I also try and play it on my cell phone and my iTouch........ it's a nice way to play the game on the go as well.

I have two sets of the "Nintendo" version of the Monopoly board game. One is used to play with, and the other is unopened in mint-condition still in the plastic.

Doctor Who Monopoly is on my Christmas list.

Is there a hard-and-fast rule determining who wins this game? Almost all the time I play, we end early and there's no clear-cut winner.

Yes. Bankrupt players lose, so the last one to go bankrupt wins. You go bankrupt if you can't pay your debts.

Going by that, I take it games can take hours to win!

I would improve a property on my turn if an opponent's token was 6, 7, or 8 spaces behind it. 4 times out of 9, the opponent's token would land on my improved property, and he or she would have to pay -- usually more than they could afford. No one could figure out my tactics.

Only the losers called it "cheating".

The most dreadful thing that could happen to me in this game is rolling three straight doubles.

That's why it's sometimes called "Monotony".

Great game for sharpening some general math skills if they play the board game without the fancy stuff. Great way to pass a long, rainy day.

I do. I love playing board games as well as computer games and console games. I used to play Monopoly for hours on end with my family we used to have board game nights scrabble was the other board game we used to play as well. I still play Monopoly to this day with friends and my sister.

Is there a Star Wars or Star Trek Monopoly board game?

The Star Wars one should be relatively easy to find. Trek? Don't think so...

well that, and going for the the properties on the last side of the board (should be Park Place and Boardwalk in the std. game), there you have two expensive rentals and the luxury tax to suck money out of your opponents... When you get hotels on them, you can expect a hefty dime from them. Also, go for the 4 train stations/airports, it gives an additional chance of draining opponents' wallets near the end of the board.... they'll be bleeding profits and you'll be snickering like a Ferengi
