I'm seeking to be a better advocate through writing. I'm well tired of puzzle pieces, person-first and "miracle cures". I think it's high time we bridge the dichotomy between NTs and Spectrum folk.

The first book I want to write is "I Wish You Knew" or perhaps I will come up with a better title :).

In it, I want to feature anonymous letters from Aspies and Auties that would contain in 2-5 sentences what you wish NTs knew about you. The tone should be informative and non-aggressive.

This conversation won't be one-sided however. I also want to include a half of the book that would be the same style of statements-but by NTs tellings Aspies and Auties what they wished we knew about them.

Samples, totally made up to show format:

From Spectrum folk to NT: "I wish you knew that I do not want to be cured. I wish you knew that I find person-first language offensive, and that I see my autism as a fundamental part of my humanity." or perhaps more specific "I wish you knew that I really wish you would pay better attention when I speak and that I actually have something intelligent to say."

From NTs to Spectrum: "I wish you knew that I really do try to understand you, and that I do see you as an equal."

Those are lame examples, but I hope I successfully conveyed my point :)

Just as some clarification:
- This book would be online only at this point.
- It would be 100% free, which is why I am afraid I cannot offer any compensation over your statements.

I'm not broken, nor am I a carbon copy of that character in Rain Man.

even though i'm the opposite of effusive, you can assume i like you, because i like most people. also, i'm quiet, not aloof. though i don't talk much, i'm a good listener.

"Just because something seems simple to you doesn't mean its simple to me"

That pretty much nutshells what i want NT's to know collectively.

Just because I don't wish to spend as much time socialising as you do doesn't make me stuck up or mean that I don't like you.

Great idea

"If you think I look stupid, ask me about quantum physics or neurology before you judge"

"Just because my conversation comes to an abrupt halt when I'm interrupted by noisy people the likes of you doesn't mean I LET you interrupt me. Apologize for the intrusion and ask me to finish what I was saying. And then listen politely."

"Nothing about us without us".

You have absolutely no idea what it is like to be Autistic. You don't know how I think, what I think, or how I view the world, so, stop trying to make my decisions on my behalf.

I very rarely say things with the specific intent to ridicule or offend. My apologies in advance for all future statements that may ostensibly seem to be intentionally malicious.

To women: I'm not necessarily staring at your breasts when my eyes wander around. :o

Love this idea!

"If you've met one person with asperger's, you've met one person with asperger's. It affects each individual differently."

i'd say two things:

1. NO, you don't understand how we perceive things, just as we do not understand how you do.

2. just because i am different, it does not mean that i want to be the same.

Probably the biggest one

If I am really focused and don't seem to acknowledge you the way you want, don't take it personally, because it's not you - I just get really focused in what I'm doing- so much so that I sometimes shut out the rest of the world

^ Most aspies can relate
