Asian dramas.
I've seen about 3 all or most of the way through. Currently I'm rewatching Mars, a Taiwanese drama. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ7rjqeov3A That's the opening to it. I've also watched the Great Teacher Onizuka live action (it came out before the anime) and a Korean drama called My Lovely Sam Soon. I saw GTO all the way through in order, Mars and My Lovely Sam Soon I missed episodes of. I saw Mars and My Lovely Sam Soon on the AZN Channel before it went out of business (man that was my favorite channel in the world, life went downhill after that channel went off the air, anyway...) So I'm rewatching Mars right now, in order, and wow, what a great show. Great Teacher Onizuka and Mars are about tied as far as just favorite TV shows in general for me.
Anyway, does anyone else have any recommendations for Asian dramas I should watch?

I don't know about dramas but there is a fantastic Korean war film called 'Brotherhood Taegukgi' ,
Its about 2 brothers who become seperated at the time of the Korean division and end up fighting against each other on opposing armies. It gets very emotional, especially during the closing scenes.
EDIT: Has luck would have it someone has uploaded the whole movie onto Youtube. Enjoy.

I got Tae Guk Gi on DVD. If you want a similar movie in a different setting, check out the Chinese movie "Assembly" it's amazing. If you want a somewhat more propaganda-y movie (about how the Japanese are evil) check out "On the Mountain Tai Hang" movie about WWII, a battle in China against the Japanese. Lastly, "The Birth of a Nation" is a rather odd propaganda movie that came out recently about Mao Zedong and how great he was. There used to be an Asian video store in my area that'd sell bootlegs of stuff, so I saw those movies. Anyway, Tae Guk Gi is amazing, though.
As far as dramas I'd like, I basically put out those three to see if anyone had anything comparable as far as mood and characters went and whatnot.
I haven't seen those mentioned, but I know of GTO and my sister told me about the MARS manga.
Hm.
Concerning school dramas, my personal recommendation would be, without hesitation, Nobuta wo Produce. It's my favourite drama of all time. If not, then, Hana Yori Dango and Hana Kimi are supposed to be really good, though I've yet to watch them (mind, I watched some of the Korean remake of the former, Boys Over Flowers). For school dramas more centred on teachers, I'd recommend the Kinpachi-sensei series. I've only seen some of one season, since there's only one place to find it subbed and the download links all expired, but I'm sure you can find another season online. It has at least 8 or 9 seasons, not all of which need to be watched nor in any order, and it's somewhat of a Japanese drama classic, I believe? Gachi Baka!, though I only saw a few episodes was quite interesting, too. There's also Gokusen, which has 3 seasons and a film to its name, but it gets slightly repetitive as it has a very specific episode layout and each season has a very similar premise. Lots of people like it, though.
As for more romantic dramas, my first recommendation would be Tatta Hitotsu no Koi, the drama which seems to rival NwP as my favourite. It plays on the whole love across classes theme, but it's a really beautiful drama.
And, as for the aspects of MARS that are a little darker, like bullying and the rest, the best drama for this kind of theme would probably be LIFE. It's really good, you should definitely give it a look.

Tae Guk Gi was so good. I'm half Korean, but the subtitles did help me. I did understand what was going on, but some words I don't know. My Way is supposed to be good too. I do at times watch Korean dramas on Korean channel we have here in Northern Virginia. They tend to have English subtitles. If its available, you can rent Yellow Handkerchief. It was a popular drama that KBS did back in 2003. Or Smile Donghae is good too!
