My daughters very best friend is getting married in a big Kardashian style wedding in Vegas, they both want me to be there. My daughter is guilt-tripping me to attend. Her friend has been thru alot(breast cancer survivor in early 20's),so I can understand why she would want a fancy wedding and all her friends and family.
But Vegas?!?!?That's the last place on earth I want to go to.Loud city sounds, movement, and smells overload me terribly.I even told my daughter that I would get a note from my shrink just to get out of this.
She does not get the sensory overload, she thinks it's just anxiety but the anxiety comes from the sensory overload. She's acting real bit&@y and hurt about it.
Any suggestions on how to get out of this?I think it's almost cruel to expect me to attend.
Now if the wedding was in a park in the Grand Canyon I'd most likely want to go.

Maybe you could send a gift and a card (ideally not a store-bought one) to show that you are thinking of her? But I'd say put your foot down on not going to the actual wedding! Go the extra mile in other ways to show your appreciation.

I would enjoy Vegas actually, but I still believe you 100%.

you could try getting diazepam from your doctor for the trip. it might help with the sensory overload. having an escape plan to get back to your room would also be a good idea

Thanks for the tip about the gift Comp-Geek-573,I will definitely consider that.

chris5000,I have a script for Ativan but it's a small dose,I guess the doc would temporarily up the dose but I think I would have to take so much I'd be a zombie.

I'm finding myself hoping to be ill at that time, which shows how much I want to avoid it.Who in their right mind wants to be sick.

It is OK to say NO to things that would be bad for you, no matter how bitchy your daughter is being.

I think I will have to say no to her even of she has a hissy fit,you are right arielhawksquill,it would be bad for me and would take forever to recover from,I know the stress would trigger my IBS so I would spend most of my time in a fancy bathroom.

I don't like anything about Vegas bigwheel, the waste of energy to keep those lights on,they should be all solar in the desert. And the waste of water to keep all those fountains going,I wonder what the evaporation rate is?Plus depressing to think of all the people trying to win and losing the shirt off their backs.

I hear ya..Dont get caught out there in a rainstorm..not that very likely to happen of course..but when it does hold on. They have street drains about half an inch wide. Looks like the Mafia could have managed the infrastructure better than that. I bet Bugsy Segal is spinning in his grave so to speak. He would have put in a decent way to drain it.

have you been to vegas before?
I think you should go, you might even enjoy it you never know
you should have an exit strategy though and have someone with you that is aware of your issues.

dont give up before you try

That's what my daughter is pushing, try it you might like it.I've never been there but I don't really want too either.Flashing lights, commotion, traffic.I did go in a casino in OK once.I wound up staying in the poker room,it was quiet.I'd have to ride there with my son so I would be stuck there till he left(but he is more understanding than her). I do have a unreasonable fear of rooms with windows that don't open and most big hotels have single pane windows like that.I'd rather sleep in the desert with the snakes than in a hotel room with only one way out.
