Just wondered if anyone else does this, is it as simple as anxiety causing it or is it a whole other trait?

I think it's anxiety, or it feeds into anxiety and anxiety feeds into it.

I don't catastrophize as much as I used to, before starting zoloft.

Just a bit; but most of the times I laugh about catastrophes that will never happen (like the end of the world on the 21st of December).

I catastrophize a lot with things that mean a lot to me. I'm always thinking that if I can't have one thing a certain way my life is pointless and I don't even care to live. I can't live without the one thing I designate but I actually have 4 or 5 "one things".

It's the end of the world if a "one thing" doesn't go right.

It really shouldn't be a yes/no option. There are increments of catatastrophizing. Some make mountains out of mole hills, while some make molehills out of mole turds. I'm of the latter sometimes.

I think my generalized anxiety is way more disabling for me than the Asperger's. I try to keep it under control with medication but I still feel like the world is ending every time the slightest bad thing happens

I don't, but DH has it down to an art form. I've been out of work since feb, and he's terrified we'll be homeless. Nevermind we live frugally, have substantial savings, and I have relatives, and am getting interviews. I often compare him to a cross between Rambo and Chicken Little.

Yes, BUT...
The poll is too simple. I did this mostly as a young man. Age has tempered many of my old sometimes negative traits, as it has also opened my eyes,

I totally catastrophize. It causes a lot of crying jags. Lexapro helps, but only a little bit.

I do sometimes, but my fiancee who I see Aspie traits in definitely does. In fact, he thought the world was going to end when cookie dough started sticking to the board and rolling pin, while I was the one who reassured him that it happens all the time, and added more flour. This was a recent example of that trait I recognize in him, and I think the fact that he has Aspie traits is why we've been together as long as we have, and why we'll eventually get married once I find a new job.
