Anyone else having problems uploading new avatars?

I've been trying to change my avatar for a couple of months now...I edit my photos/avatars thru Microsoft Office Picture Manager, and I try to get them within the specified dimensions, but it doesn't seem to work - a notice will come up that says, "File must be .jpg, .gif, or .png (and to the best of my knowledge, ALL the avatars I've tried uploading are either .jpgs or .pngs) or "File must be at least 16 kb", in which case I don't really know how to make a file 16 kb in Microsoft Office Picture Manager. I've tried uploading my avatars thru my computer and thru my Photobucket URLS with no success.

I didn't used to have this kind of difficulty uploading avatars, and it's getting a bit frustrating.

Could someone please help me with this?

Sounds like you are making your image files too big. What you quote is incorrect. Here is the requirement:

its width can be no greater than 130 pixels, the height no greater than 160 pixels, and the file size no more than 15.77 Kb

That program is probably more efficient at managing than editing. If that...

For quick tweaks of trivial images (avatars!) I use this: http://www.irfanview.com/ which makes it extremely easy to convert even full-colour photographic images into WP-compliant avatars.
(works fine with Wine under Linux too )
