I respectfully request the indulgence of the mods, since I am splitting this one off from a very active thread, but I think we might want to gain more data on this issue.

Are you aware of individuals on the spectrum that have a) decided not to join WP, or b) left WP, due to a percieved "tone"? If possible, please indicate which type of "tone" was percieved.

This would include people you know online and/or offline, including friends and family members.

I am asking about perceptions of other people, I am not creating this thread to argue if these perceptions are right or wrong, only to collect data. I included perceptions I've heard of, because I don't want to leave anyone out.

Of all my aspie friends I have brought here, they all left because of the drama lol. One of them said this place was too depressing, the other one said there was too much bitching and moaning and not doing anything about their problem and then he said they need someone to help them with it so they can be happier and be more sociable like he is. He also thinks they all want to be a stereotype of it and the label. Plus he told me aspies must love drama because there was too much of it here.

The last one I am not sure why he stopped coming here. Maybe too busy and forgot about this place. I think he may be aspie but he is in denial. It's been brought up to him before and he just rejected the idea.

There's a lot of negativity here whcih is the main reason I think most aspies would like to stay away.

However, I think it's important for people to have a place to vent. Makes me feel a little better about myself actually. I'm doing pretty fantastic compared to many people here and would be happy to share my advice.

I'm only here because I'm bored as crap, and it's the only forum I know of, that has lots of OT sub-forums.

I signed.

I expected a community of advanced compassionate individuals - all i found was a downer and argument. Like most forums to be fair.

The "tone", it feeds me.

I know of no one who left for the reason above though (I don't really know many people though).

Poll need fixing a little: Many of those that click no - just wont know of any other people here.

However I do agree with the reasons for doing it.

My plan was to go through the first page and look at registration dates of the OP. Take an average

Then compare that to other forums.

Perceiving this kind of tone is not one of the strengths of my brain. I think WP is fine. I don't perceive much negative.

Well that's very surprising, given that Stoek claims to know loads of people here!

I haven't noticed a tone. But I'm not a very active member.

When I joined I felt very welcomed, more than at some other forums. I've always found people who I've interacted with on here to be nice and helpful. :)

@Nessa - do you have to stalk me on here? You tire me.

Your first post makes no sense and second seems a trite truism.

I have seen lots of threads where people threaten to leave the site because of the "negativity" they perceive.

As a long time participant, I have seen many come and go for various reasons. It's just part and parcel of these types of websites. It's also (in my opinion) a reflection of ASpieness, some people got disgusted and left, one I know got herself barred from using this website, most (I think) just drifted away.

Neither do I.

If people here on WP have indeed threatened to leave because of a sense of "negativity", then IMOO, then such people should have never joined Wrong Planet in the first place.

I've left a few times primarily because of one ultra negative person but I find myself strangely drawn back. I just try to avoid the negative ones, and they pop up from time to time, as often as possible. These are the ones that if you say black, they'll say white. If you say hot, they'll say cold. Why? I guess it's because they're bored and miserable.
