I've been wanting to quit smoking again and am trying different things (right now popsicle stick chew on wood in my mouth) instead of cig.
I was curious as to how many smoke here?
My main reason is health reasons.
I am curious as to how many smoke here, and possibly how many have quit smoking or want to quit.
Maybe some have ideas how to quit or cut down smoking.

For me i have found it's almost an oral fixation so chewing on pieces of wood (cut lil twig off orange tree, shaved bark off) even popsicle sticks can help me by already having something in my mouth. I am hoping it will make me less likely to light up so often a cigarette.

If anyone has success stories of quiting smoking, please share if you'd like. It may be helpful to others trying to quit =)

I am way too sensitive to smoke, it makes it feel like my throat is closing up and makes me cough. So I will never smoke.

Raziel, that's good that you've only had one cig in weeks. I would love to cut down i smoke a pack a day

Kamiyu, i was born with bad respiratory so it's one of my main reasons to want to quit for health reasons. I really shouldn't be smoking at all.
When i cut down last time, my lungs could feel the difference and i could breathe better.

Its just a bad habit thats hard to break... i gotta really give myself a kick in the butt!

When i was younger i used to smoke the ganja yet i started getting bad and lacking the flow of oxygen to my brain. I had to quit. It was horrible. I have no idea why it happened like it did with that, yet regular cigs don't do that to me, yet its scary.
Lack of too much oxygen will equal seizures for me

I smoked for many years in the past. I once thought quitting was impossible. It is not impossible. However, it can very easily feel this way. I used to make every excuse I could imagine to fire up a smoke. A few consisted of: "It's raining out" (I'm a major fan of the rain and storms) "**** I'm bored..." "today sure sucks, **** it I'm smoking" That was when I was a active smoker. Very much actively addicted. I will admit I did find smoking to be a most enjoyable experience. Even if it was horrible. That's the worst part. Apart from how it made me feel, I happened to enjoy watching the smoke weave it's way in and out as it traveled through the air. Exhaling was equally as fun to watch, as was creating smoke rings. Cigarettes are your best friend and your worst enemy. Without question. It's always there for you and it wants you dead while it comforts you in the process.

Trying to stop brings new challenges because the excuses become all the more tempting to use. The excuses are after all so very convenient as they are by your own design. It is so very difficult to stop. This is especially true if you have a history of alcoholism, or use cigarettes as companions to other substances. Such was the case with myself in the past. To quit is difficult but not impossible. I quit CT and failed the first few attempts. My level of familiarity with that particular form of suffering eventually grew and I became stronger. The first 3 days are a living hell. If you can get past the first 3, you are on your way, but far from safe. After 2 weeks you have a better chance of making it. Even if you manage to stop for years there will still be a part of you that yearns to become reacquainted with a cigarette. You just have to keep fighting it. It does get easier but it will be with you for life. Consider it a manageable burden.

I sometimes smoke more, but then I just stop, smoke one in weeks and so on. Just like this and without any specific reason.

But smoking a pack a day is really a lot.
I can't really give you any advice how to reduce. I would guess there are different "types" of smokers.
Some have to quite from one minute to the other to be able to do this and others reduce slowly.
But for nearly all smokers (even for me) the mainproblem is when cigarettes are just lying around...!
Most smokers can't resist for long.

What are doobies from the earth and where do I get some? So far I've only found doobies from plants.

I'm telling you guys, if you want to quit try electronic cigarettes. I've said it before but I'll say it again- I started smoking when I was 12 and quit the day I bought an e cig., no craving for tobacco.

I used to smoke heavily. I quit time and time again.

Finally, I was able to do it, but it was miserable. That was about 25 years ago and I still occasionally wake up from dreams where I have been smoking.

Smoking Never was appealing to me. When I was a little younger I tried to smoke on a few different occasions because people around me were, it just never stuck; I also hate the smell and that feeling you getting in your mouth when you smoke. I really don't understand why people smoke, but everybody's different so Idk...

I knew smoking would be particularly bad for me because I used to have asthma as a child/teenager. So I have never smoked in my life. And never will.

My colleagues and I talked about disadvantages of smoking before and came up with: unhealthy (not only cancer), costly, bad skin (gray-looking skin, older-looking skin), unattractive (appearance and mentality), bad smell etc. I honestly have no idea why anyone would even want to think about smoking. It's repulsive.

I have some smokers around. Some are trying to quit, but unfortunately none of them has succeeded. Some know they should quit, but can't even try to quit because they are so addicted.

You would be surprised at what happens when curiosity takes over, I believe my curiosity is unmatched. life is just one big bag of experiences, but after you have had an experience, it's up to you what you do with that new information.

I don't smoke. I'm a singer, and I have to take care of my voice.

Smoking never did much for me but I still occasionally light up like if someone offers. I kind of like it sometimes but that's about it.
I was heavily addicted to smokeless tobacco, though. I'd dip Copenhagen snuff ALL the time until I figured I'd better quit or else. It was horrible to just quit like I did but somehow I managed.

Bleh...nope. No smoking here. Tried it a few times in high school, but there was no appeal for me. It helps that I get sick as a dog every time I'm around it for more than a few minutes. Don't know if it's an allergy or just a sensitivity, but it can get bad. Forget about going to clubs or bars -- as if I would do something so social to begin with. A night's worth of being in all that smoke would have me in bed for a week, and all the noise and socializing would have me rocking in a corner by the end of the night.
