It is several topics about it here. The writers have more or less admitted it, but they do not want to publicly state it as it would suddenly set a lot of their jokes in a bad light.

I'm a big fan by the way!

No, I believe that the actor's naturally "flamboyant" personality is showing through in his portrayal of the character.

Firstly, what difference does it make?

Secondly, that's blatantly untrue- what makes him appear to have autism is the way he is written (misunderstanding sarcasm and jokes, not fulfilling social conventions like birthdays, rigid routine, lack of empathy, intense special interests). The acting is secondary.

I can only think that you are making a homophobic slur.

To answer the question: yes, he has autism. There's no way he wouldn't get diagnosed if he presented for a diagnosis, no matter how Chuck Lorre tries to deny it ("my mother had me tested" my arse).

I don't know maybe, its a fairly entertaining show though.....like the sort of thing I will leave on and laugh at rather than change the channel if it happens to be on.

His mother also wishes she "had followed up with that specialist in houston"

I also think Alan Harper and Walden Smidt seem to have some aspie traits

Basically chuck lorre makes shows about Aspies

It is my answer to the OP's question.

Are you implying that the actor is irrelevant to the role?

I said nothing about anyone's sexuality.

Both Bill Purdy and Chuck Lorre (a.k.a., Chaim Levine), being the creators and executive producers of "The Big Bang Theory" are the final authorities on what the characters are and are not. If they say that Sheldon is not an Aspie, then Sheldon is not an Aspie, and that's all there is to it.

The fine folks at Wikipedia wrote:
Sheldon exhibits a strict adherence to routine, a total lack of social skills, a tenuous understanding of irony, sarcasm, and humor, and a general lack of humility or empathy. He is vocal about his own superior intellect compared to all around him. These characteristics provide the majority of the humor involving him, which has caused him to be described as the show's breakout character. Despite speculation that Sheldon's personality traits may be consistent with Asperger syndrome, obsessive–compulsive personality disorder and asexuality; co-creator Bill Prady has repeatedly stated that Sheldon's character was not conceived nor developed with regard to any of these conditions.

So there. :P

They state that so boards like this dont go crazy, so they dont "look mean" and so they dont get the "someone with aspergers would not do that"

The writers of house and big bang said the same things - they both are aspies but the writers cant/dont/wont admit that

So, because those who would know deny it, it must be true.

Just from observation it seems like Sheldon Cooper is an aspie.

If that were true, then so are the creators and producers of the show.

No. According to the dictionary...

flam·boy·ant (adj):
1. strikingly bold or brilliant; showy
2. conspicuously dashing and colorful
3. florid; ornate; elaborately styled

In other words, the actor who portrays Sheldon does so in a "bold, showy, and elaborate" way. I would also think that he habitually chews the scenery.

More simply put: He's a ham.
