I have spent most valentines day alone. In fact I spent today drinking 2 KG of straight OAK Custard.

Despite all that i am not an overweight person (i could always look better) but i am also a person who never feels genuine emotions such as Guilt, Remorse, Caring for my fellow men and women, but rather like a shell. I get very easily confused as i have spent my life with a mask on and i have learnt to mask and replicate all "normal" emotions and connections and use them when i believe that the time calls for that particular function. This leaves me totally blind to know if my desire to have a companion on any day but especially this one, is a real desire/emotion or if it is just me with my mask to be normal. I also am confused to know if it is just me desiring to be more "normal".

My question is that how many others cannot recognise if you have a friend or aquataince who either secretly desires or is even openly throwing their body language towards you for or on valentines day?

So please also if you dont want to give a response with your name, at least do my poll please (all literals, please that was a pun. I checked with my family)

I've spent every valentines day of my life so far, alone. Not to mention the other 364/365 days a year as well.

Whenever someone was likely attracted to me, I always realize it far too long after the fact. I've found that I tend to automatically dismiss anything that might be romantic interest because I've always been somewhat self-defeating in that regard. I'd like to be in a relationship, but for some reason I always feel like I'd be crazy to believe that whoever I'm interested in is also interested in me.

Valenbane's Day

Darkness surrounds me,
all that I see, is empty couples
but no people, and no love.

Plastic hearts, bland candy,
empty pages with no words.

Fools, rushing about as if their
lives were in danger, threatened
by fire.

To be burnt to blackened cinders.

When I ask WHY, all I ever hear
is empty words.

I love her, I love him, but do they
really?

364 days, and they never say
I love you to each other, much less
act like they do.

Better run, buy her this, buy him that
before "honey" abuses
you and there will be nobody to
protect you from this, only Mr. and Mrs. Normal
to laugh at you, and tell you to
"take it like a man", only you can't,
and loud sirens and ambulances take
you away, twisting, seizing, uncontious,
into the open square mouth, of a cold hospital.

Valentine's Day doesn't mean anything, it's mostly a commercial construction. Just ignore it. 8)

^Agreed. I don't get any more down about being lonely/single on valentines day than I do on any other day. In fact I think I rather like not having to do some false display of affection just because some marketing told me I Should.

It's a day that you're singled out on though... most other days it's just in your head and other people actually don't really care all that much...

I am a female. I want to ignore Valentine's day altogether.

Sadly, I am neurotypical dating an aspie, and the media tells aspies that all women who claim to hate Valentine's Day are liars. For today I am going through the motions, since that's what makes HIM happy. I am hoping he legit believes me when I tell him I don't want to celebrate or do anything for my birthday, though. I am the Grinch of all holidays. Bah, humbug. I'll celebrate the couple ones and your birthday cause it makes you happy, but any holiday that doesn't require US to do anything as a couple: OPT OUT, PLZ.

To be honest, it's the blatant commercialism that really turns me off the most about holidays.

Valentine's Day is just plain obnoxious to me. If you truly love someone, you don't need to shower them in chocolate and excessively cheesy "romantic" language and activities to prove it. It just is.

I am fine with valentine's day being a "do something nice for someone" day. And I am also for giving people chocolate. What I don't like is the heart shaped boxes and all that commercialized junk.
