Just curious. Here's a the best test I could find that isn't biased towards a specific country (though it still does have a U.S./UK bias a little bit). I attached my results, which are atypical for my country (the U.S.).

I qualify as left, slightly authoritarian because of a few non-politically correct quirks (population control, etc.).

Central left - I'm not a liberal, but I sure as hell am not a conservative.

I'm UK based by the way - in the US politics is a whole lot more polarized.

A realist. Only idiots hail pure Socialism or Capitalism as a universal solution.

And to the OP: "government control of business" does not equate to left. It does in the few communist countries that are left, but not in Europe. We've always had a free market economy with little to no interference from the government here in Sweden, pretty much been the same in all northern Europe countries. There were some state run corporations, but those were owned and controlled by the government. The private sector were not controlled by the government - ever.

I see myself as a Constitutionalist more than a true Libertarian Conservative, though they do tend to overlap a lot. Many of the questions seemed oversimplified for some of the subject matter.

I'm considered to be libertarian left on that thing, but that doesn't really work outside the context of U.S. politics.

In UK politics, I'm centre-right, classical liberal and conservative.

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.54

In that example picture there is nobody in the purple quadrant.

I think I did one of these before on WP...

But I'll never pass up a chance to undermine the boorish liberal/conservative dichotomy... so here goes...

Economic Left/Right: 6.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.64

The position of the contemporary political leaders, as per the OP, is ridiculous, BTW. Almost no difference between Assad and Romney? Seriously?

And Hollande, with his 75 percent tax rate for the wealthy is a centrist on the Left/Right axis... hmm...

I also find it peculiar that the site was unable to find real-world contemporary examples of political leaders in the right/libertarian (purple) category.

Ueli Maurer, perhaps? Of course, most people would likely have to Google the name to find out who Ueli Maurer *is*. Food for thought?

Its nice to see the "Libertarian" label being used more stringently than its more common contemporary use, though...

I also notice that some of the questions were poorly worded, as they conflate questions of fact with questions of opinion:

Take these ones, for example:

"People are ultimately divided more by class than by nationality."
This can be investigated empirically, so there could be a "correct" and "wrong" answer.

"It is a waste of time to try to rehabilitate some criminals."
This can be investigated empirically. The currently available evidence suggests that the prospects for rehabilitation of psychopaths are extremely poor, for instance.

"Astrology accurately explains many things."
This is false, as astrology is not falsifiable. Those who did not answer "Strongly Disagree" or "Disagree" are thus wrong, regardless of their opinion.

"No one can feel naturally homosexual."
The current scientific evidence suggests that this statement is false. This suggests that those who did not answer "Strongly Disagree" or "Disagree" are wrong.

"A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system."
This is a tricky one. A one-party state likely does avoid all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system. This makes a sincere answer difficult.

... But hey, I ended up where I expected I would be, so it can't be *all* bad...

Test identified me as left libertarian, which I think is accurate! I support more freedom for pornographers and pot growers than for multinational banksters.
