Greetings:
My father sent me an e-card sometime yesterday and I don't usually read them since my dad and I are not that close and he does not seem to want to reach out to call me. It's always me calling him and our conversations are only longer than 15 minutes and then he seems to cut me off.

Anyway, I opened the animated card about a picking a card trick. So I picked the card and it supposedly vanished and then I got a joker card that said,

"Joker Fool." Then the card said, "April Fool's."

Even though he probably did not mean it, I found the card somewhat offensive and maybe insulting and I don't know why.

Because he doesn't usually seek you, his contacting you only for the sake of fooling you somehow feels offensive. If he always actively contacted you, such a joke would be funny and you could laugh about it.

He probably just found the site to send April Fool's cards out and sent them to a bunch of people he know, whether or not he talks to them often. I wouldn't get offended or take it personally. You were in his address book, so you got a card.

This.

An April's fools joke is nothing to be offended by.

The problem is that my dad used to bully me in the past and so sometimes those types of things befuddle me.

He also has a way of making sarcastic barbs at people and very carefully weaves them into things that he says to make you mad when he is upset.

So sometimes I cannot always tell if he mad or if he does things like that.

I always hated April fool's jokes. It makes me feel like the other person is mocking me in some way. I think I'd find it especially offensive and confusing if it came from someone who didn't normally contact me or someone I was having a difficult relationship with. I'd really be wondering what they meant, and whether it was an insult or not.

I'm probably too sensitive about it, I don't know. What I'm trying to say is I think I know how you feel.

I know it. I love April Fool's as long as it sticks to telling people a joke but when things actually become more than that, it can be hurtful.

For instance, I had someone where I used to work decide to put a "Kick me" sign on my back and have everyone quietly laugh at me. I sort of flipped out and said that I was going to call my job coach and the boss got mad and asked me to stop.

"Why are you freaking out? They don't do they everyday."

I'm impossible to offend. I don't understand getting emotional based upon an e-card. Maybe I am in the wrong place.

No maybe you are truly vulcan. They are my favorite science fictional characters and I wish I was more like them in many ways.

I wouldn't like it because I fall for such things all the time.

I don't get bullied all the time. It is just my dad does not really seem to want to grow up. He also seems not to really think about the feelings of others at all. Then he wonders why no one talks to him.

I would give all that I have - to have my daughter send me a card like that or call me on the phone.
Maybe you are just being too critical and you are looking for more and your dad doesn't know how to deal with you for more then 15 minutes at a time.
Be GLAD that he does that much.

I once felt bad because I had no shoes, until I met the man who had no feet!
