Really, dude? Surface Pro? All you get from it is the chance to brag about a cool TV ad. Otherwise, just get a touchscreen laptop that costs less and does more, faster.

Hmm...

That has not been my experience with it. And the commercial really, really sucked.

Sadly it's a Win8 system, therefore it's locked completely. I think that your review on a gun forum may be out of place, as I believe that a lot of gun people would be more interested in systems like this,
due to the fact that you can take one out into the boonies, without having to worry about the system f***ing up if you inadvertantly drop the thing in a puddle, or on the rocks. -- The SurfacePro will fail in harsh outdoor environment, while the above systems are designed to take the abuse.

nod.

I'm not a huge fan of win 8, but Metro's easy enough to avoid. The start menu can be replaced with aftermarket freeware, but I haven't bothered. I just add the icons I use a lot to the quick-start tray and then use shift-number keyboard combo to run them. First icon is shift-1, second is shift-2, etc.

Anything deeper and I start-search for it.

And yeah, this is no toughbook. But at the same time it's clearly much more durable than most standard laptops I've seen. Honestly, it feels like the steel of an AR-15 receiver, if you're familiar with that. Very tough, and the gorilla glass is amazing. Not many people put screen protectors on these because it's hard to imagine anything that would damage the screen that wouldn't shred a protector.

The Nexus 7 screen is almost unbreakable...

I wonder when the Microsoft hate fad will be done. It still ends up being one of the best portable computers at that price range and is the best all around tablet out there. Sure there's some cheaper, sure there's some with dedicated grafics cards, but overall the surface does it all together better.
