I created a poll, but please feel to describe how you relate to birds here as well. Do you observe their habits?

I am afraid of them. I do not know why. I l like to watch them from afar, but do not like to be close to them. Sea gulls and pigeons are the worst as they have no fear of humans. I once had a gull swoop down and take food from my hand. Scared the crap out of me.

I'm quite fond of birds, likely because they're among the most visible larger animals in the cities. I'm always looking at the pigeons, crows, blackbirds, and gulls, and ducks and geese whenever I walk alongside water.

It started pretty early for me, as my mother reports that as a toddler I would always chase the chickens in the petting zoo. I much enjoyed feeding bread to the ducks throughout my childhood, until I was informed that this may actually have bad effects on the birds' health (as they'll grow content with being fed a diet that doesn't have all the nutrients they require).

I have occasionally taken injured birds into my house to help them recuperate, including two pigeons, a blackbird chick, and a woodcock.

I should add that I find birds a bit more easy to 'get along with' than mammals, because I think birds are a bit more explicit and clear in their communication. They can indeed be very direct and intrusive once they've gotten comfortable around you, but I feel as though it's very much 'what-you-see-is-what-you-get' with them, while with mammals there seems to be a lot more code in play.

I'm not really a bird person. I'm not afraid of them or anything, they just have never interested me.

Yeah me too. They can be really annoying and noisy too but I don't have a fear of them.

They dont interest me for the most part. The only time I really notice them is when there staring at me when Im eating waiting for me to drop crumbs. City birds have gotten quite used to the cohabitation of humans. There are some birds that inhabit a certain area mostly relying on the crumbs humans leave behind.

I find their sh1t very annoying. Some birds (even some common pigeons) could carry some dangerous disease for humans. So I keep away from them. Also I can't understand those people who go bird-watching. It sounds really boring.

Having said that, tame birds are really cute. If you have them since their babyhood, they will be very friendly to you. I once saw a chick that was lost in the city (I don't know how it ended up there), it was trying to approach whoever happened to be around. It was very cute and I was really worried that some predator might catch it.

Birds happen to be a life-long special interest of mine. I have a pet African Grey parrot and I also have a falconry permit. I used to have a Red-tailed hawk I trained to hunt for me but, I had to let him go back to the wild when he found a mate. Now he comes back every year and raises babies in a tree across the street! :D

I do think birds are interesting and I like to watch them casually, but at the same time I also have to say I hate certain birds. :P

I like most of the "domestic" birds and I think all the raptors and owls are really cool, and I especially like the small, light birds, like finches, wrens, etc. I like seagulls and other sea birds for the most part.

I hate crows, swallows or starlings or whatever the heck kind of bird sings at 3-4 AM in Washington, mostly because they are noisy and annoying. I'm about 50/50 on pigeons; I think they're dumb and unsanitary, and they make a big mess and their behavior can be a little annoying, but they're not noisy and they can be interesting to watch. I've seen them do some comical things.

To me, crows are interesting in that they are obviously really smart; but they also have a brutality streak from what I remember. And sometimes they just won't. shut. up! :wall:

I think I like ravens and blackbirds better. :)

I have been a bird watcher for 30+ years, I find them fascinating but my desire to go bird watching comes and goes as an obsession.
I don't understand the masses of folks who don't know or give a monkies about the animals and birds we share our world with, same with plants, trees, insects etc.. I like to know what I am looking at.... it saddens me the wealth the world has to offer and is ignored !

Birds are pretty dear to me, and I had a couple of adorable finches growing up.

I'm more interested in predatory birds right now, such as hawks, eagles, falcons, and especially owls. :D

I could be more into Harry Potter than I am, but I'm thinking we probably have it to thank for bringing owls into the limelight. They were just never a "thing" in their own right, before that. HP got me to pay more attention to them; they are pretty awesome I do think. 8)

Beautiful and interesting birds. I used to have one that I could hear outside my window at night. :D
