These are the same people who condemn background checks when purchasing guns yet invading the rights of private individuals is okay...cuz them mental ill folk, they get violent right? Ugh, what more do I need to say here? This is the kind of crap we're gonna have to deal with everytime there's a massacre in this country. I'm starting to feel for Muslims everytime a terrorist attack occurs cause this generalizing crap is reaching it's peak with me.

This is a useful collection of links/resources about that.

The author of that page is also the author of the linked article.
s.e. smith is really good on these issues, too.

Wow! I didn't check the article first as I feared it might be some kind of anti-mental illness thing and I try to avoid those.
I'm a big fan of s.e smith
There was a representative who was worried the island of Guam might capsize if we landed too many planes on one side of it. That's just one famous example. In other words, you're absolutely right. *tears out hair* No offense, but I wish you weren't...

He said it was a bit of a joke and reflected concerns that a military buildup would strain the infrastructure on Guam:

If you watched the video of him saying it, he wasn't acting like anyone who was joking. And of course he was going to say it was a bit of a joke - once someone with a clue pointed out how stupid he sounded, and gave him an idea how to make some excuse that might sound halfway plausible.
I mean, if you choose to believe him, that's your right. But after seeing the video - and the idiocy that regularly comes out of Congress - I am inclined to think otherwise. And I'm not singling him out because of whatever party he belongs to. I didn't even pay attention to that, because I consider both parties opposite sides of the same, worthless coin. Politics seems to appeal to the least common denominator at this point.
(Even before I was born, there was a lot of idiocy out there in politics; just look at how many times numerous British politicians both ignored the growing menace of the Nazi party in Germany and bungled opportunities to help desperate Germans who approached them get rid of Hitler for them. I'm not sure every other politician alive in Britain in the 1930s, combined, had as many brain cells as Winston Churchill. Who was a terrible politician - in support of which, I point out that, after being proven right about the Nazis, and saving England from them despite the number of blunders by countless other politicians, immediately after the war, he managed to lose the election...)

Good God, I am tired.
And people fail to understand why I am hateful, cynical, and bitter. My therapist thinks I should try to concentrate on the positive. What-- bury my head in the sandbox I built for my kids with these hands that are just waiting to commit some act of mass-murder??
*sarcasm*
They think I am just being mean when I give harsh, hateful, bitter advice.
I don't like saying those things. I don't want to have to say those things. Just as much as any of you, I want to live in a world where those statements have absolutely no merit.
But, just like you, I open my eyes every morning in THIS world.
Where optimism, for all it might feel nice, can get you or someone you love destroyed. Not dead-- DESTROYED.
Still alive, wishing to be dead. DESTROYED.

We should build up a resistance just in case the autistic community goes under siege. This attack on people with mental disorders seems to throw people with other disorders in the same boat as us, so maybe they could join the resistance too. If we could build up a resistance of people with mental disorders large enough, then we might be able to raise enough hell to force the government to back down on whatever anti-disorder policies they put in place. It would be pretty difficult to organize this though, so it probably won't end up happening. At least I know that I've got a few autistic comrades in the event that the government passes laws that violate the constitutional and/or human rights of people with autism. The few of us probably wouldn't be able to defend ourselves from the police that'd come to our houses and try to forcefully institutionalize us for no reason in particular, other than being diagnosed with autism. We could still prepare Molotov cocktails and other homemade weapons to resist them though. We'd still put up one hell of a fight before going down. I really hope things never come down to this though.
And this is how you think we can best persuade people we don't have a tendency toward violence? I see a few flaws in your plan... This post just plays directly into the hands of anyone who would like to "prove" we are all violent.
If by "resistance" you simply meant legal protests, countering misinformation with facts, or seeking to set up an organisation which would mount legal challenges to unjust laws, I'd be with you one hundred percent. I don't like a lot of what I see. But I really don't think violence is the answer. We're not exactly dealing with the Third Reich, and no one has suggested a "final solution" for us. Yes, I do think if we were to be violently attacked, we'd have a right to defend ourselves, as anyone does. That isn't the situation. So please try not to lose your head. That will only provide further justification for the very things you fear.
Speaking for myself, even if I found myself in a situation where I felt I was justified in using violent means to defend myself, I wouldn't bother, for two reasons. The first is practical. In the few instances where people tried to force me to fight, I demonstrated to my own satisfaction that I'm just not any good at violence. So why attempt what I'm certain to fail at? The second reason is philosophical. Although I suppose I might act instinctively in certain situations (I did once hurt someone when I was trying to block their foot with my own, because I misjudged the distance and angles - they had already kicked me hard enough to plow a bloody furrow in my shin), I really don't have the stomach for violence. As such, except for instinctual reactions, I'd prefer not to allow anyone to make me become something I do not wish to be.
That doesn't mean I'm not angry about some of the things I see happening. I'm capable of writing impassioned poems crying out against the injustice. But violence has a way of breeding more violence. It almost never solves anything. (I can think of one time in history - World War Two - when you might argue violence solved something. Even then, it would have been far better to avoid such a bloodbath. If only other nations had been willing to act sooner, before Hitler secured his position as well as he did.) If you cannot convince enough people of the justice of your cause, then you've lost anyway. To me, putting up "one hell of a fight before going down" would be cold comfort indeed. I prefer to fight with my pen. At least then, even if I do "go down", my words may survive, may even in the end prevail.
