This Storm, by James Ellroy.

Sequel to Perfidia, a combination of corrupt LAPD detectives and those they've entrapped, during racial hate directed against Japanese Americans and Latinos, and unsolved murder, are caught in the whirlwind of WWII history.
First rate Ellroy.

I love 20th C. detective stories set in L.A., the gritty, postwar setting is so compelling. Have you read Walter Mosley or Raymond Chandler?

That looks like a good one. I most recently started on Watership Down by Richard Adams. I put it away for now because it was getting intense and I'm going through a lot. I'll get back to it when things get settled for me.

I particularly like Edgar Allen Poe and will start reading MR James' ghost stories.
