D.O.A. II: Extreme Horror Collection.

Christmas present from my wife. An anthology of extreme horror fiction. So far very good.

I won’t torment you any longer with my “does it have to be?” The world is the way it is, and things don’t proceed the way we want them to but the way others want them to.

Well-written, with no sympathy for the colonizers (Spain, Netherlands, England, Japan, or America).  A "tell it like it was" account of Philippine history going back to the first people to inhabit the archipelago. A must for scholars.

“Eleanor Powell Born To Dance” by
Paula Broussard and Lisa Royere

Saw the film “Born To Dance” (1936) only recently. Eleanor was an amazing tap dancer and her own choreographer when that was unheard of for a female. Nobody can touch her or even comes close, in my estimation. And that includes Astair. Who teamed with her in two films.
He later went on to say in his biography in the 70’s, that she was too powerful for him and “danced like a man.” Which at that time might have been taken as a slight. But today it’s the highest compliment he could have given her.
I watch her film over and over on mute with closed captions, and play music from My Morning Jacket as the track. The Cole Porter songs are standards now but they sound outdated and poorly sung.
She was lifelong friend with “Bojangles” Robinson who showed her a few tricks of the trade.
She had a sassy style and absolutely beautiful smile. She was a Wonderwoman ahead of her time. She radiated joy and just plain goodness. Knew I had to get her biography as soon as I heard about it.
Just started but intend to read right through.

Can post the song though. I hope.

The Dream, Zola (1888)

C'est incroyable. But seriously, I love it.

I attempted the French (Le Rêve) but the Biblical references were too hard for me.

The Barnstormer Of Oz, by Philip Jose' Farmer.

One of my dad's favorite books by one of his favorite authors, so I thought I'd give it a try.
