Even when you're really sick? I woke up with what I think is food poisoning today and had to call in sick. Whenever I do that, I always feel massively guilty, like they're going to judge me for it, even though I've never taken a sick day when I didn't really have to (unlike my coworkers who seem to do that a lot and feel no guilt).

Just wondering if anyone else felt the same way?

I feel the same way and it's really annoying. I also get very nervous when I have to call in.

Nope. I only call in sick if I am contagious and it's very rare. Last time I had to call in sick, I had a very bad cold I had massive headaches and sore eyes when I stood up or sat up. Worst cold ever. One time I thought I was going to have to call in sick because no one was home and I couldn't leave my son home alone when I go to work but fortunately my husband came home just before I had to leave. It caused me such anxiety my husband had his mother take him to his appointments and bring our son with so I wouldn't have to worry about them not coming home in time for me to go to work.

Me too, like they're going to think I'm lying and read my voice for signs that I'm lying, even if I'm not. Such a weird feeling, and yet, I'm pretty sure I abuse my sick days less than any of my coworkers do.

I also get really anxious if it looks like appointments and so on are going to cut into my time at work or make me late, etc. I had a meltdown once because a flat tire was going to make me miss some work. I don't even really love my job, I just get very, very stressed if something is going to make me look bad for it.

I take more sick days due to allergies and "mental wellness" than being actually sick. I tend to have more hours than anyone except the boss, everyone else has hardly any. I tend to both feel guilty on my own and am made to feel guilty by my coworkers, and when I return I am told about all the trouble they had while I was away. I avoid calling in, but it happens a lot in early spring due to pollen allergies.

Some Bosses think there is no excuse for missing work. When I want to call in sick I go to the companies safety coordinator and I tell him that it is unsafe for me to come in too work that day. If my Boss fires me for being sick I ask the safety coordinator to fire my Boss for violating company safety policy.

In most cases, a meltdown is much worse than being sick.

Therefore, a meltdown resulting in calling is sick is plausible.

I sometimes do feel guilty, because I feel as if I am letting my co-workers down by not showing up. Most of my illnesses are actually migraines, and when I call sick, I feel bad losing a sick day, despite having SSI, because it also feels as if I wasted a sick day.

I do also, mostly because I feel like my boss will think I'm either lying or trying to get out of showing up. Every time I call in sick I try to make my voice sound wobbly/weak so that they'll get the picture that I really am sick.

My Boss told me that if I want my job I will show up even if I am puking my guts out.

If I'm really sick, no.

If I'm put off and need to get away (I'm "sick" of work), not really...something an NT taught me.

My bigger issue is that a day off = no pay. Even when I'm sick, I don't like taking time off if it means no money that day. It's nicer to have a job that pays you regardless of attendance (so long as you don't abuse it). Takes the stress off of making that choice.

A good boss will let you take the day off if you just want to take a day off...so long as you don't do it all the time.

I almost never call in sick for work and, if I do, I am on my deathbed and still feel bad about it!
Even if I am legitimately sick and unable to work, I feel the need to make myself sound more sick like I've got to prove how sick I am...
I did just start a new job that offers somewhere between 5 and 7 weeks of paid leave time per year, though, so I may have to adjust my habits a little (there's not a lot of benefits to not taking the time off)...

Yes.
I've never called in sick to my current job. I did call in one day because I thought the weather was too bad, it was only a four hour shift.
There are new people they've recently hired (you have a 3 month probation), they have not shown up and not called!! !! You get fired if you do not show up, do not call, three days in a row. They've done it once, and then show up for shifts, do it again another time, etc. I wouldn't be able to do that!! I'd feel bad even if I called... People just seem to stay home for the silliest reasons, and sometimes they're not even 'sick'.

I may have called in once at my current job. I had to call in last year due to depression.

I try hard not to. I occasionally take flex time.
