In my on-going search for useful Autism-related resources, I keep running into this sort of thing instead:

Quote:
Indigo Children are extant on the Earthly plane to demonstrate:
  • Their ability communicate in unspoken ways.
  • Their ability to access all facets of Divinity.
  • Their ability to heal the world.
  • Their ability to illuminate hidden realities.
  • Their all-encompassing perspective and awareness.
  • Their heightened communal consciousness.
  • Their intrinsic harmony with each other.
  • Their overall uniqueness.

There are many more such lofty and esoteric claims regarding Autistic people, virtually everywhere you can look.

[opinion=mine]

Now, while none of this is on par with "Vaccinations Cause Autism", believing in these things may inspire parents of "Indigo Children" to consider their children above the needs of "ordinary mortals" and treat them like prophets and oracles.

This is completely aside from the fact that none of these claims has any measurable basis in physical reality - it's wishful thinking, plain and simple.

[/opinion]

What do you think?

I've always found the idea of Indigo children to be a crock, plain and simple.

A crock that services the wants of the parent, not the needs of the child.

No, I didn't. Someone else made these up, too: Astral, Ethereal, Iridescent, Iridium, Luminous, and Zeta Children.

It seems that no one wants to settle for "Autistic" anymore ...

The iridium children were brought to Earth by a comet or asteroid like the ones that caused the Cretaceous extinction and unlike the stork that normally brings non-iridic children to their parents.

The iridescent children are both from an advanced ocean-faring civilization that fares the oceans on a floating island metropolis with some oil spill blessings around it causing the iridescence due to thin film interference.

The luminous children are from another advanced civilization deep in the Earth, and they are luminous due to luminescence caused by transition metal electrons emitting photons from a higher energy d orbital to a lower energy d orbital.

What does indigo-flavored ice cream taste like?

After what GGPViper said about Planet X ice cream vendors, I'm not sure I want to ask for a sample.

Did you ever write for Star Trek?

No, but I have often wished to write for the Weekly World News.

I like Duke Ellington.

So I guess that makes me "a Mood Indigo child".

...voted for 'other'

Ran into this in a quite intense way a few - o.k. more than a few - years ago. I told a white lie in a way as when I signed up my son for special ed/speech & language therapy/pre-school, the head teacher got all gushy about how he is one of 'those' children, and how I'd better learn how to treat him, handle him, etc. She made me take a book home, "to read about them". And she said it would all make sense when I read the book. Honestly did not know what to say, so I just was quiet about it. She was from Sedona. Enough said.
