I had a annual pap/breast exam. Due to my extreme anxiety, and this horrible bladder disease (interstitial cystitis) the doctor prescribed Valium and Percocet to take an hour or so before procedure. It calms me down and also I don't feel much of the pain of the speculum going in. She uses a baby speculum. I choose not to get married and never have children. I can't imagine sticking a tampon in there or have children with this bladder disease I have. I have had it since I started at George Mason in 1998. I was fine at NOVA. I have to constantly go bathroom and it doesn't feel like I emptied my bladder. I have to avoid a lot of foods and drinks like coke, sprite, coffee, tea, basically anything acidic or spicy too. So pasta without sauce is fine. I tend to buy organic cereals since it has no preservatives. MSG is a killer too. A lot of Korean foods is spicy, but I can't eat much of it.

Also the gyno found a lump underneath right breast, so now iIneed mammogram which I scheduled for July 20 which is a Sat. I'm too young for cancer! I'm not even 40 yet and mammograms I thought were for women over 40. As far as I know none of my aunts have had breast cancer. I asked mom and my aunts are fine. Dad's sister and rest of the ladies from what my cousin Melissa told me never had breast cancer. I don't drink or do drugs, I'm not overweight and I work out! I eat my veggies and fruit too. Koreans eat more fruits and veggies than Americans do anyways. Desserts after meals in Korea are always some type of fruit and RARELY cakes. Every meal in Korea has some veggie dish too.

Can deodorants/antiperspirants cause breast cancer? Even the natural ones isn't safe. So if that were true, Secret, Dove, Degree, Toms of Maine would all be sued. So many women use them to keep fresh. Also I read that the more a woman wears a bra it increases her chances of breast cancer.

Nothing I can say will stop you from being anxious, but a lot of lumps turn out to be benign. Try to hang on to that.

A lot of lumps are benign, like not all moles are cancerous.

All lumps do NOT equal cancer. Please find comfort in that thought if you can. I had/have a lump in my right breast that is benign. Just densely fibrous. They did a needle biopsy (I had the option of a lump biopsy, but thought I'd start with the needle so I wouldn't lose tissue if it was benign). It turned out to be benign. When my new gyno did an exam and mammogram, I brought in the old films and they verified it was the same benign lump. It's possible that your lump is benign also. My mother also had benign lumps. I hope that provides some relief until you get your results. I'll pray for you too.

Not all lumps are cancer. The last woman who had lumps they just ended up being cysts and needed to be drained, that was all.

Whether deodorant causes or contributes to breast cancer is under debate. Many people believe it doesn't, but many also believe that it does. If you are worried about that, you can switch to one that is roll on and without the more harmful ingredients.

My mother had a lump once and had to have a mammogram and it was just a cyst or something else harmless.

I've read different things about whether antiperspirants cause cancer. I stopped using my aluminum containing aerosol deodorant and now dissolve baking soda in water and rub that under my arms for deodorant. I also sanitize my armpits with vinegar to control odor.

If antiperspirants, or deodorants whether its Toms of Maine or Secret cause breast cancer, then men will be the only sex on the planet. I read that George Lucas has or had breast cancer. Men can get it too. But that's so rare. I switched the radiology appt for mammogram this Sat. I think 35 is too young for breast cancer. I still have a 93 year old grandma. I'm scared. Sometimes my breasts hurt but my period is due July 21 if it's on time since I got June 23. Maybe breasts hurting before period or shortly after is normal. I don't notice nipple discharge. I think I had a breast exam done in May for my annual physical. I forgot though. If I did, he didn't feel a lump at all.

So the results is no cancer, but I have dense breasts which is normal. But I got information from the radiology saying that while dense breasts is common, it's harder to detect cancer on mammogram and also higher risk of getting breast cancer. But there is no family history of breast cancers or any type of cancers in my family. I'm not overweight at all. I'm only 5'4, 125 pounds. I eat veggies and fruits and do Zumba three times a week. I lift weights too. I walk for an hour few times a week when the weather is nice. I'm not a couch potato by any means. I guess Asians are more prone to having dense breasts since most are slender anyways. I'm half Korean.

Glad you got a good result! The fact that you're otherwise healthy and take good care of yourself will always be in your favor. There are no ironclad guarantees in this life, but you're stacking the odds in your favor as much as you can. That's all you can do.

As stated not all lumps are cancerous, in fact most are benign, however it is best to get checked out because if it is cancer early treatment is best. Not all cancers run in families or need to. Sometimes people do get cancer without family history of it or have a family history with it but never get it themselves. There are many theories about what can or cannot cause cancer and from what I've read there are no clear studies directly linking deodorant or wearing a bra to cancer which are not disputed by other studies. While more common in older women breast cancer can affect any age or gender. The best thing is to try and relax and wait until the test results come back. Your doctors should be able to explain the results to you either way.
