I don't know whether this is intentional, but the indicator for new posts in a thread or topic resets before I actually read a thread. For example, I log on and notice 2 topics have new posts in them, but I don't even click on those topics, I go to a different topic and read a thread. From there, I close IE. The next time I come to the site, the new post indicator has cleared on the 2 that were there, even though I didn't read them or mark them read. (FYI, I stay logged on even when I close my browser, so my cookies are good.)
On every other forum I use, the indicator for a new post stays on until I actually open the topic and thread where the new post is, therefore actually being able to read it. This seems more useful and logical, because then I can see what posts I have looked at and which ones have new content, which I thought was the whole purpose of the indicator. The way it is now, you would have to leave your browser open all the time AND have read every thread for the indicator to serve its purpose.
Since I am brand new to this site, I still have yet to read 99% of the threads, but now I will never know how many I have missed unless I put that I am watching every single one (which I won't do).
