This is specifically a linguistic topic. And whatever he said should have been left for other members to decide for themselves whether it was banworthy.

MrMark, why don't you also refer ascan to Alex for suspension???

ascan attacked me in a completely unprovoked manner, I simply defended myself. If you advocate suspending my account whilst not doing the same to ascan, you are effectively condoning bullying.

I refered andy1976uk for suspension because this was the third such offense in less than 12 hours.

Actually, I cant find anything remotely resembling a personal attack in any of ascans posts in this topic, unless you mean "You best enlighten us, though I feel rather self-conscious in asking. I fear this maybe some gem of information that I really should know, yet my sheltered upbringing in the wilds of this far-flung corner of the Kingdom has left me in ignorance of", which is maybe a little sarcastic, but nothing offensive.


Nevertheless, only you, Andy, possibly Alex and maybe Ascan have any way of knowing if it was even offensive, and therefore the administration cannot be held accountable to the membership because you do not leave us sufficient information to form our own opinions about incidents. I believe the KGB had a similar doctrine, as did the Gestapo. Andy stays until such time as he gets some form of fair trial, and with the only evidence having now been destroyed by an "agent of justice", I dont see such a trial ever happening now.


I think I speak for most people here when I say I dont consider favouritism acceptable. IF the "he hit me first" argument is even relevant - and judging by your labelling of it as unacceptable, it is - then each is as guilty as the other, and so should be treated the same.


If that means what I think it means then no, this matter has very much not been resolved.

The issue is not whether or not it was offensive. The issue is whether or it was consistent with WP rules. Andy engaged in name-calling in three different threads. The rules are not subject to the interpretation of the membership. The administration is accountable only to the sole owner of Wrong Planet. Alex has given me limited authority to edit and delete posts and delete and lock threads because, I believe, he trusts my judgment. Andy stays because he and Alex talked and Alex made the decision.


I asked Andy to send me links to posts that he feels violate WP rules. I have received none. If I do, and I agree that the rules have been violated, I will respond consistently.

I think "resolved" simply means no suspensions for anyone, although they'd be well within their rights to suspend ascan, myself and 2 others who broke the rules. I grudgingly accept the matter resolved, but it doesn't bring back the last 24 hours of my life that was squandered on this and my confidence in this site has been shattered thanks to the number of trolls I've encountened in the last few days.

You haven't received any because I've already lost the last 24 hours of my life on this, in addition to my confidence in this website, what little reputation I had here, increasingly my confidence in my fellow Aspies (some "evolutionary trait" ) and because you could very easily see ascan's provocations in the thread that started all this BS in the first place, not to mention a basic search would take you to ascan's other controversial posts.

Allow me to reiterate that if anyone brings specific posts to my attention which they feel violate WP rules, I will review the posts and respond in a uniform manner. In addition to watching numerous threads on this forum, I have a full-time job, household chores, and a couple of hobbies to pursue. I do not have 24 consecutive hours to devote to a single issue.

I'm sorry that you've had such a negative experience with this site. I hope that it does not overshadow other, positive experiences that you have had. Ascan's posts may be controversial, but controversial does not violate the rules. If it did, Alex or I would have locked the thread about the AS student who allegedly stabbed an alleged bully. We both find some of the opinions expressed quite distateful, but there has been no violation of the rules. We don't (or at least I don't) feel that we can censor simply because we don't like what is posted. There must be a clear rule violation.

I am going to attempt to split this portion of this thread off and move it to theWP Site Discussions Forum as I feel it is a vital discussion but inappropriate to this thread. I've never done this before so please bear with me.

The point in an internet forum is to provide a service to its members.

Judging by what you said about Andy staying here, I suppose I just let my (not unwarranted) paranoia cloud my judgement.


It strikes me that the term "negative remarks" is - very - broad. Could be anything from a simple joke or sarcasm to a genuine attack as far as anyone knows, and Im beginning to think your just being overly sensitive. Any chance of a link?

Well... not really. What are you suggesting he uses as a search string? Ascan has well over a thousand posts, are you suggesting NONE of them are legit?

Not at all. I've only seen a handful. I found the questionable posts very quickly without using a specific string. However, as far as I'm concerned the issue is no longer relevant, as yesterday was probably the worst day I've had so far this year because of this whole issue, so please don't be offended if I say that I no longer want to think anymore about it.

Service is provided "as is" to members at no charge and without warrenty.

Hey guys, I think it would be better if you continued this on via PM or somewhere else... if someone is banned or suspended, that should be between that member and the moderating team (with an occasional exception if they wronged anyone else to get them suspended). It shouldn't be out in the public for every member (and non-member) to read.

I feel that an open discussion of the rules helps people to better understand the rules. Anyone with privicy concerns can switch to pm and that will be respected. I have never shared privite messages without consent.

Also, there is the principle of "government in the sunshine." Some people are understandably concerned about use and misuse of administrative authority. When issues are discussed openly, it helps reduce suspiscion and pessimism.

Interesting, I can't remember consenting to you sharing my PMs....

Forgive me, you are quite right. I didn't feel there were privicy issues since you were asking in open forum essentially the same thing you had asked me in pm. Also, I shared with Alex primarily to document what I had said. Alex has access to everyone's privite messages.

Again, I apologize if you feel your privicy was violated. I've removed the only instance I could find from the thread, but if you find another, please let me know and I'll remove it too.
