So I was reading this post, and was a little taken aback by the OP's opinion about adoption and adoptive parents. I am curious to know what you guys think about adoption, is it a good idea, a bad idea, not really something you have thought about..? Why do you feel that way?

If this is in the wrong forum, mod may move it to a more appropriate place.

I was adopted by family, way better than living with my bio-mom.I just found out from her that she did trucker speed while she was pregnant, how nice for me,the fetus. But my adoptive parents were old and both passed and I lived some time with bio-mom and at school in another state, than it all went to hell and I became a ward of the state.Such fun,my adoptive parents were the kindest, most patient people ever.I did luck out and get some awesome foster parents. They took in all the kids nobody wanted, and treated us no different from their own.It can be a blessing if you get good parents, the same for birth.

Adoption, as opposed to what? Euthanasia? Institutionalizing them?

Adoption as opposed to being an orphan.

I'm very close to my adoptive dad. Humans pass on culture as well as genes, and the latter can be passed on to an adoptive child just as well as a biological one.

Adoption is in its basis good. If you have decent competent people who wish to help raising a kid, then it's a good idea.

^The problem is that its too good to be true. Any student of human history can tell you that we're such pleasant creatures, capable of mass murder and other acts of depravity more often than we're capable of goodness.

Adoption is a good system, because it is preferable to living in a care home.

I support adoption. I gave a baby up for adoption. It was either that or kill it after it's born and go to prison or just flat out refuse to take care of it and either end up having my relatives take care of it and/or having it get taken away.

I never wanted kids and wouldn't even want to do things like change a diaper or hold a baby.

I see it as a way for people that don't want kids to get rid of their unwanted ones and a way for infertile people to have kids since they can't have their own.

I wouldn't ever have kid, but I might consider adopting an older child.

I think those that adopt are generally great.

7 day warranty; new baby guaranteed to pee, poo and cry or your money back.

Adoption is not a 'purchase', it is a legal comitment to be the parent(s) of said child.

You're forgetting that it could sometimes cost up to hundreds of thousands of dollars to adopt a child, and on top of that, you have to go through a smorgasbord of legal and psychological screenings as part of the home study. It doesn't stop some adoptive parents from going over the edge.

Stuff them in a microwave, at the worst.
