Actually, nihilism means belief in nothing. That is, you don't believe in any divine entities and/or you don't believe anybody has a purpose for existing. What it does preach though is that since there is no universal or divine purpose, humans are free to make one for themselves. It does not necessarily mean that nothing matters. It also supports the notion that humans have a huge amount of free will.
