Yes, those that get paid to educate, use politics to shut up a 14 old Autistic boy from speaking.
Typical - they just don't want to hear the truth.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Well all he has to do is discuss it to the right people in private it was clearly stated that the public meeting was not the place. Granted it is a kid and the adults should just sit down with him and talk it though after that.

The board should have let him speak his mind without interrupting and than asked him questions afterwards. If people would just listen to us instead of pointing fingers, we would be able to open a lot of doors for ourselves.

And we also discussed this in the following post:

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt242328.html

And I think it's fine to have to have a couple of discussions as this situation is well worth discussing.

I think there's a rule here where there can't be duplicates of the same topic...had no idea a thread on this article already existed!

I think the purpose of the rule is to prevent someone from hogging WrongPlanet, for example, in trying to sell something. I think it's in a sense more of a soft rule. And honest mistakes are certainly allowed.

I'd much rather someone post something than be afraid to post something.

And from the video of this fourteen-year-old young man, first and foremost I think it's really neat that both his Mom and his Dad were on his side. And with skill and with matter-of-fact confidence, they both backed him up.

This type of situation often occurs for adults too.

Part of the problem is that the institution pays the “security team” . This give the institution the power to threaten us with violence, even when we are being professional. They said, in the video, that they had previously been threatened.

As a spin-off of Aspie meet-up groups we could organize security teams. This would not condone violence. They would all have cameras.

Once the authorities view it as "security" or "liability" or something like that, it's like any constructive work goes at a snail's pace.

The institution's overfocus on "security" is similar to the idea, "Your phobias become foreign policy."

It is stated multiple times in the article that he was not being allowed to do so. The teachers weren't listening and the superintendent was refusing to meet with them.

There's a fine example of the situation I fear-- using politics and PC window dressing to look like you want to help when, in reality, all you want is to CONTROL.

I see very little hope in this world for myself or my child.

I see so little hope in this world for so many people that I see, in fact, very little hope for this world.

Were I God, I think I would run the garbage disposal. That's why I don't get to be God.

Hmm. Both links are not working... My theory is that some autistic people staged it to signal where autism and media are landing, and it isn't good. If this is true, tell them that I wish them luck in their quest.
