One of rock's true originators, gone at 71. R.I.P.

The Velvet Underground were one of my pet aspie fixations for a while during my teens, and I'm still a huge fan now. His solo career was quite chequered but contained several brilliant outings ("such as "Berlin" and "Magic and Loss") nonetheless. And let's just not mention "Lulu", shall we?

I like "A Perfect Day." Really good record. I also liked his early stuff, too including VU. Raw power, indeed.

The original "alt rock" artist and a New Yorker to the core. The word legend is overused. Not in this case. Without him I would have been probably listening to happy feely music my whole life and would have felt more different

Thank you soooo much Lou.

RIP. Fantastic musician, from VU&N through Transformer to his collabs in the 00s. I particularly like Some Kind Of Nature

It's kind of funny how Lou Reed distanced himself from the punk scene, claiming he had nothing to do with it. Was he kidding? He had everything to do with it, him and Iggy Pop and MC5. The out-of-tune guitar recordings, the sprechstimme style of talk-singing, the dark subject matter, the simple chord progressions. That was all Lou Reed. Sprechstimme was utilized by Ian Dury & the Blockheads, Jim Carroll, the B-52's, Devo and the Talking Heads.

It's also true to say that modern rockers have numerous reasons for getting drunk and for dying of precisely the same thing Lou did. R.I.P

Really down over this one. First musician whose death has had that effect on me since Trish Keenan from Broadcast. He gave us everything.

Over a decade later I can still remember the first time I heard Take a walk on the wild side, it just made you stop, listen and remember.
