Um, i specifically chose the example of Liberia because it was modelled on the USA! Liberia was once the USA's only foothold in africa. It was established purely as a means to allow american slave descendants to return to africa, but it was an abject failure because they tried to adopt the US system in every facet of their lives.

Even the Liberian flag is modelled on the American one.

anyway if you're going to use war as an excuse, the DPRK is also at war. With S korea and the USA. The difference is the DPRK doesnt have a superpower backing it up. The average standard of living in the DPRK was actually higher than S Korea until about the 70's when the soviet economy started to stumble.

I would'nt argue it was the ONLY factor but it is certainly a major exacerbator.

Trying to apply trickledown economics in a country where there already isn't much wealth to start with is never a good idea. Especially in a place with political instability and inter-tribal conflict. I would argue that such countries need a greater bottom up emphasis is why socialistic developing economies (that follow through with such policies) generally see a better average living standard for their least well off.

Liberia basically was basically the Antebullum South transplanted in Africa with the freed slaves being at the top of society instead of the bottom. These former slaves which only made up a small fraction of the population ruled Liberia with an iron fist for a 130 years before being overthrown in a bloody coup in 1980 that was supportive of the indigenous peoples, the popular support behind the coup soon evaporated tho as the new leaders proved to be just as brutal as the last and the country would soon descend into civil war with tribes warring against each other.

I hate the american government because its the consequence of educating myself about the behaviour of its military (bradley manning-gate anyone?), intelligence agencies and economic terrorists throughout the world that do all they can to maximise their hegemony and undermine the lives of the citizens in the countries they infiltrate.

I hate the way that America gives Israel the lions share of its aid despite the fact that its already a developed mini-nuclear power that makes it a threat to its neighbours.

I don't hate America, or Americans. I like some aspects of American culture and I have American friends.

FOr the record most of my family serves in the US military and are against nations like North Korea and such because well? they violate human rights and enjoy torturing people and are against the US constitution and I get tired of my country being vilified for it.
