I am so frustrated with my job situation, and just work in general. I am 32, male, in the USA, and experience Aspergers among other things. I just do not want to work just to pay the bills. Doing work I don't care for just to pay the bills is just too much for me. Is disability an option for me anyone? I've been feeling like this all day and will probably be calling the crisis line again later today I hope.

Go to the emergency room. If you feel this way, but are still around to talk about it and ask for help, then you want to keep living. Even if it doesn't feel like you want to keep living, you do. The evidence is there. So if you don't feel like you can safely take yourself to the ER, call 911 and tell them that you feel you're a danger to yourself. They will take your call very seriously.

I probably should go to the ER, but I am scared of the cost since I no longer have health insurance. I am glad I came here, it helps. Thank you.

s**t, I'm sorry. I saw you are in the US, but didn't figure it out that the ER costs you guys money. Hmm. Do you have firm knowledge on what the costs are and how/when they're incurred? Could you, perhaps, go to the emergency room without any identification and still receive treatment without them having a way to know who you are and thus bill you? That's a little farfetched, I know. Call the help lines. Talk to somebody. That's what will happen at the ER most likely anyway. Find understanding, neutral people to talk to. Really, just keep talking. And also, if you feel like you could be in danger where you are, change your setting. Put yourself in a safe place. Self-harming is often impulsive and so it can be curbed by removing yourself from a setting in which your impulses could be satisfied. And of course, keep posting here. I went through what you're going through now just last week and the WP community was very supportive.

Hopefully I can hang in there a little longer. I live in a northern place that is dark, cold, and wet. Depressing, and financial worry amplifies it. I feel a tiny bit better. Thanks for your support.

Hang in there. If often feels like you want to hurt yourself and, on top of that, you want to want to hurt yourself. But you're here asking for help, so you can't really want to want to hurt yourself. So as dark as things seem, there's hope. My counsellor has helped me realize that it's OK to indulge yourself in the "time wasters" that make you feel better in the short term. Are there any songs or tv shows or movies (comedies especially) that always make you feel OK? I find even at my darkest, I can still laugh and enjoy my favourite comedies. Maybe try indulging yourself in something like that. It's low effort with relatively high reward. It keeps you occupied.
