Why is it that natural light blonde women in the world are only 2% of the population and even a sizeable group of that population darkens? That's a pretty low number, and I shouldn't have to travel to a place like Scandinavia just to find a measly one girl who I happen to find is hot. There is this one girl from middle school with lighter natural blonde hair that I'm angry is not my girlfriend and never will be. Don't just tell me "move to Scandinavia" this is a sad topic for me. I read ago that they will also be extinct in 100 years. I have even read somebody say that those into blonde hair are pedophiles. :(

Perhaps you should be more selective in what you choose to read.

I agree. While it is true that only 2% of the adult population has natural blonde hair, and that blonde hair tends to darken with age (that's what's happening to me T_T) it's only a myth that blondes will become "extinct" within the next 100 years. That rumor has been circulating for a long time and there's no basis for it.

Also, I have never heard of the rumor that "people who like blondes must be pedophiles". If that's true, than almost everyone who looks at clearly legal, big breasted blondes in porn must be pedophiles. (Which of course makes no sense!) :P

I think that where it comes from is that it is not unusual for some young children, particularly with more northern ancestries, to have light colored hair that darkens as they age. Some nitwits hear that and arrive at the idiotic conclusion that men who like women with blond hair are really desiring prepubescent children.

Maybe 2% is true overall (seems low) but that doesn't take into consideration region. I have been stationed north, south, east and west in the USA and in many places blond hair is quite common. Also blond hair is not unique to Scandanavia but also is found in most European countries and places like South Africa, Australia and South America. Sofia Vegara for instance normally dyes her hair. She is actually naturally blond.

Extinct in 100 years? Not even close. Maybe 200,000 years, but I doubt we will last that long anyway.

If the only women you're attracted to are natural light blondes, then you have bigger problems than simply the small amount of them.

This is the haven, cafe. Although you might think that, is it really helpful to state it here?

Many people have preferences. Like a man being over six feet tall, for instance. If their preferences aren't catered for, some feel sad.

It's also argued that genetically some men have a desperate need for certain genes for their offspring, and wired into them is a sort of longing for this. I don't necessarily believe in this, but then it's easy for me, because I can't think that way.

OP is entitled to his thoughts.

2% doesn't sound like a lot, but if you just walk around and look for people you will find lots of blonds due to the shear amount of people, and the blonds should standout anyway. If you really need a blond girl, really want one, and try hard enough you should be able to find one. However, is that really what you find most important?

The mutation of blonde hair where it turns red is really common in the British Isles. It seems like the British have been unconsciously trying to make that gene die out through centuries of anti-ginger prejudice and discrimination, but it's still going strong. Even I carry it as a recessive gene and I'm a dark-eyed brunette.

Since blonde hair is selected for (rather than against, like red hair is) then I wouldn't worry.

Blond hair isn't about to go extinct. Neither are redheads, for that matter. The thing about recessive genes is that they can hide out in populations for centuries, even after they have declined significantly. I wouldn't be sad about this if I were you. I doubt that Blond hair will be leaving the planet for a long, long time.

I live in America. We are a relatively mutty nation (if there is a word I can think of, not as an insult) and have people of different skin colors all over the country. This isn't a problem, of course, but is what is being said that I shouldn't worry about not finding one, even though 2% is a small number?

My oldest daughter is a blonde. When she was a little kid her hair was almost white it was so blonde but now that she's 20 it's just light blonde. It's not light brown or anything, just blonde. She highlights it with several shades of blonde, some lighter and some darker now. My youngest son is blonde too but his hair is now a darker blonde.

That's what happened to my hair. It's gotten browner over the years, but it was quite reddish as a teenager and blonde as a kid.

Biologically speaking, blonde hair requires two recessive genes. Thus only a 1/4 chance.

Also, blonde women have a reputation, not earned, for stupidity.

I think blond jokes are just payback for men preferring them.

But someone's attempt to scientifically explain it in terms of behavior and evolution is interesting. They theorize the light skin and hair is a subliminal mate attraction choice, because problems are more readily visable against the light backround.

“In summary, I suggest that gentlemen prefer blondes in order to enable them to detect the early signs of parasitic infestation [disease] and aging – both of which indirectly reduce fertility and offspring viability.”
- Dr. V.S. Ramachandran

Now that takes some of the fun out of it.
