While I was looking for job postings recently I saw that my local library had an opening for a circulation clerk, and I was wondering if anyone here knows if someone with Aspergers would be suited to the job.

I'm in my early twenties and currently living in an emotionally abusive home, I desperately want to leave and find a small apartment or something, but I've always had trouble finding a job because I physically can't stand being around more than a few people at a time and too much noise sends me into panic mode and I lock up and start shaking and can't speak to anyone.

Which is why this job actually sounds like something I could do, I enjoy reading so I've spent time before in Libraries and in that quiet, calm atmosphere I think I could actually deal with with people without locking up, and I would work hard at it too.

Problem is, I know nothing about they're expecting for a job applicant, what makes me feel even worse is that because of how I am around people, I have basically no work experience, which means no resume. So does anyone know if someone who has never worked in a library before would be suitable for this job? Or is this something too advanced and they're expecting who has worked as a library assistant before?

If anyone on here has ever worked at a library before I would really like to hear your input, thanks!

Well, if it is a customer-facing job serving the public it can be very challenging. When I worked as a circulation clerk, though, I was behind the scenes doing shelving and checking in periodicals, and it was the perfect job for a quiet-loving introvert. It is definitely considered an entry-level position that doesn't require previous experience.

Right now librarian jobs are the purview of people with Masters in Library Science. This actually has a lot to do with databases and other things. Although a circulation clerk job is more low key than that. If you have had a previous job doing any filing or sorting, I would emphasize that in your resume. If you do get the interview, emphasize attention to detail.
