I'm just asking, because I've been doing this sort of thing since I was maybe three; whether if it was from a movie or favorite cartoon, there would always at least be one character I couldn't stop obsessing over.

Like when I was around that age, I was obsessing over Woody from Toy Story, (or Pooh Bear, I can't exactly remember). And as I aged even more, I grew to like several more characters... And depending on which character I was obsessing over at the time, it would be my strongest interest.

Here is a list of predominant characters that I hold a strong fascination in:
-Grovyle, (Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky)
-Lampy, (the Brave Little Toaster)
-Ozzy & Strut, (the Land Before Time II: the Great Valley Adventure)
-Gordon Quid, (Catscratch)
-Oogie Boogie, (the Nightmare Before Christmas)
-Hades, (Disney's Hercules)
-Discord, (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic)
-Noah, (Total Drama Island/Action/World Tour)
-*Scott, (Total Drama Revenge of the Island/All-Stars)

I've obsessed over other characters, but these are just the main ones; these cycles can usually last for months, (Discord being the longest for almost two years).

And my Scott obsession has mainly been carried out for almost three or four months, I think. And it's kind of funny, because unlike a lot of my other character obsessions, I originally hated Scott... But he is my current interest right now, which is why I've starred his name.

So, am I just a weirdo, or this a common thing on the spectrum?

I do that, too. I loooove Candace and Jeremy form Phineas and Ferb, they're probably my favorite characters from anything ever.
Whenever I watch or read something, I usually fixate on one character. For instance, I saw Frozen yesterday and I cannot stop thinking about how great Elsa was. The only thing I like that I can't pick a favorite character from is Homestuck.

love this thread, yeah I obsess over specific characters as well, I don't remember about when I was a child but here are all of the ones I can think of :D :

Hermione Granger (harry potter)
Severus Snape (harry potter) - I have been obsessed with him for the longest
Spencer Reid (criminal minds)
frank n furter (rocky horror) - haha pretty obvious considering my name
Sherlock Holmes - specifically in the BBC Sherlock
Loki (Thor)
Nicholas Rush (stargate universe)
Vala (stargate sg1)

Sometimes the obsession branches off into the actor playing the character as well

I am going to add other people as well but they are not characters:

Musicians:
Brian Molko (Placebo)
Matt Bellamy (Muse)

Other:
Derren Brown (magician/mentalist)
Simon Amstel (presenter/comedian)

I know I must be missing some but I cant think of everyone, these are all the obsessions I have had I don't have them all at once hah I don't think I could cope with that. it usually goes round in cycles, I am currently obsessed with Brian molko, and Severus snape as always

Yes. I have a tendency to get very deep into fictional characters. My current characters are Maruko from Chibi Maruko Chan, Conan/Shin'ichi from Detective Conan, Kokoro from a comic book about schizophrenia, et al.

I am very obsessed with the guy on my avatar. He's Craymen from Panzer Dragoon Saga. If it was possible, I would marry him. I love him to death and I think about him almost all the time.

YES!! !! To the point that I thought I was some of the characters due to the sheer amount of times spent thinking about them or watching the same shows over and over.

The ones that I can think of right now are:

- Alison Dubois (Medium)
- Olivia Benson (Law and Order SVU)
- George (Secret Life of Us) and then when she moved shows, Kathryn (Stingers)
- Captain Janeway (Star Trek Voyager)
- Samantha (Bewitched)
- CeCe (The Nanny) which is kind of funny because I was obsessed with her about 14 years ago and now again this year.

I don't watch anything without forming a far greater interest in one character than the others. If there is no one I connect with I find it almost unbearable to sit down and watch something. I don't see the point. I could list 100+ shows where one of the characters was the entire reason that I was watching.

Yes absolutely. Like Hetty from NCIS LA and Garcia on Criminal Minds. I have glasses like each of their characters which I tend to wear on the day those shows are on.

Always have.

Virtually every single one of my special interests has revolved around fictional characters. I consider them to be my "imaginary friends" and several people have pointed out that I seem to have an almost spiritual-type of connection with them. Whenever I start losing interest in a character, I tend to "mourn" over them and won't feel completely normal/whole until I develop an obsession with new characters.

It would take me forever to go through all of my character obsessions, so I will just talk about the ones I've had this year.

Earlier this year (particularly over the summer) I was into:

Maxwell, Wilson and Willow from Don't Starve
Alexander and Daniel from Amnesia: The Dark Descent

My interest in these characters is gradually fading away. I was pretty upset when I first realized that I was losing interest in them, but I am getting over it.

More recently I have found (or in some cases rediscovered) some new imaginary friends to love. These include:

7 (from Shane Acker's 9)

Judith (from Spike Jonze's Where The Wild Things Are) (I credit my close friend and fellow WPer LtlPinkCoupe for reminding me how much I love this character)

Frollo (from Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

Loki (Thor)

Before getting on these meds that make a clear thought nigh impossible, I used to write fiction [fantasy adventure] and I was [still am] weirdly attached to all of my characters. Friends or family would stop by and catch me sobbing [and this was before my meds had me crying about seeing an ant with a limp, tragic things like that] and ask what was wrong. I would tell them about the grossly unfair treatment, or even death of a favorite character [ they are ALL favorite characters] and they could not understand why I was so upset. After all, I was the one doing the writing. What they did not, still do not, understand is that " the book is the boss,"and I am compelled to cause some of my darlings to die.

So, yeah, I become obsessed with fictional characters, but only the ones that I personally breathed life into.

I've never been obsessed with characters, but overall shows or books themselves, to the point that I would imagine living in those worlds.

I tend to obsess over fictional characters that I create all on my own. I'll listen to music and make up music videos that show the story playing out to music. I'll think about the story before I go to sleep and daydream about it all day.
Sometimes I'll do a little research online to help aid in the fantasy.

These fantasies tend to last anywhere from one week to 3 months. They tend to focus on a strong, tall, male character who has gone through some childhood/adolescent tragedy (it's been from fighting a war as a child soldier to being a super soldier bred by the military to perform super black operations).

Yeah I dunno why I do it, but it makes me happy. :D
