personally I wouldn't think this is OK (though it's going to happen anyways because going over profiles is a social activity one does with friends). One of the problems with this behavior is that he really should be spending his emotional energy on you, not girls on the internet. continuing to browse profiles signifies a "keeping the options open" type thing to me.

Maybe I am over-focused but after the second date with a girl I if I get a third I close down my dating profile while I see what happens with the irl relationship.

Depends on the person you're dating, but in my opinion, I would say no.

It's extremely hurtful, it may send the person the wrong idea, that you're intrested in them, where as in fact you are not.
