On February 7, 1964 the Beatles arrived at New York's Kennedy airport and the British Invasion began. You can say as many do it ended in 1967 with the Psychedelic /Hippie explosion which was a worldwide not solely a British phenomenon. It as had it's up and down times but in one form or another the invasion never really ended and is stronger then ever today with the popularity of female Brits like Adele, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, Ellie Goulding. It goes beyond music Downton Abbey, Royal Family mania and use of British English expressions like "spot on" becoming a regular part of the American lexicon. But it all began 50 years ago.

The Beatles are fine, but I'd say the ladies you mentioned (especially Adele) were probably more influenced by the late, great, Dusty Springfield.

It does not have to be the same sound as 1964. But if the Beatles and the original invasion that followed did not happen who knows if British music or culture's influence would be close to what it is today. Prior to the invasion it was very rare for a British Act to chart here. Dusty was fabulous and she died to soon. I would have liked to see her duet with the current acts
