Some banks already have metal detectors and other security deterrents at the entrance. I imagine in a heavy crime neighbourhood there would be metal detectors in malls or department stores.

I'm not going to any movie theater that does pat downs or metal detectors. Not only is that excessively invasive but I want to have a means to shoot back if someone wants to shoot at me.

do you run a security agency? or are you proposing a welfare/employment program that would end up with massive lines in from of every building there is and slow everyone's entrance to everything
I would simply speed up my joining of the commune if this occurred (or barring that walk off into the desert)
have you ever stood in a TSA line at an airport? or at the place in any government building where they do this to everyone. You need two security guards to check all your stuff and for every alarm the person gets patted down. Womyn get pulled over for bras, your shoes/belts come off - for every building/store you go into?
I would have to go out and buy a new makeup mirror and throw away the one in my backpack, I could no longer carry my nail clippers with me, or probably half the stuff I do just to speed up the annoyance I already have. forget it, it would just lead me to be so angry I would actually go postal in society.

It's so inconvenient that criminals can't follow laws.

It's so inconvenient that criminals can't follow laws.
From my perspective, a little flaw with this thinking is that you never know when a person might suddenly go from being a nice, law-abiding citizen. Everyone is a non criminal until that moment when they become a criminal. And we cannot assume that ever person that walks through the door of a public building is going to hurt someone else, or pull out a gun. I am looking for the day when one of these mass shooters is affirmed to have Aspergers and the wild right wing religious fanatics start saying that Aspies need to be locked up, confined, institutionalized immediately as a preventative measure. And right wing extremist groups are just looney enough to do it. on more than one occasion after the last few shootings, one or more of my siblings began making the comparisons with my behaviorisms. One of my siblings has threatened to try convincing my Psychiatrist that I am not safe to be out in public. I despise guns. Cant stand them. Would not touch one. I hate video games. I don't like any computer games other than word games and I have not had a physical altercation with anyone in over 40 years. I have, however, on 3 occasions during my life had someone stuff a shotgun in my face because they felt threatened by my demeanor and appearance. I have been terminated from a job because I "created a hostile and threatening" work environment, although I had never cursed or raised my voice at anyone, or gotten into an argument with anyone. The complaints were made simply because I kept to myself, didn't socialize and sometimes grunted or growled during my work, at no one in particular. (BTW I am 5'11 inches 235 pounds and have always worked out, but rarely smile at anyone)
I have had women in stores grab their little children behind themselves to shield them from the "ogre" (my own words), and grabbed their purses when they see me. (again btw, I have never even been inside a police station, let alone been arrested for anything in my life.
Please link to an incident involving an "undetectable" gun. While it's possible to make a single shot zip gun from non-metallic materials, I've yet to hear of a crime involving one, and all the examples I've ever seen have been extremely crude and more likely to harm the user than any potential target. Better to use a nylon reinforced shiv if you're trying to get a weapon past a metal detector.

I've actually changed my opinion partly after hearing about this news story & other various horror stories about the TSA. The people working at those machines can be more dangerous than the people who are having their privacy invaded. Plus what about kids & teens who are scanned this way? If the footage gets recorded & leaked, it's child porn.
Small Manhood Jokes Lead to Miami TSA Officer's Arrest
https://abcnews.go.com/Travel/miami-air ... d=10583691
The reason for the assault: police said the victim and other TSA employees had been making fun of the size of the screener's genitals.
The disagreement started several months ago when screener Rolando Negrin, 44, and his co-workers were trained on the TSA's controversial full body image scanners.
The body scanners allow TSA staff in a separate room view images of the of airline passengers' full bodies, private parts and all, with the passenger's face blurred.
According to the police report, during the training exercise the machines revealed that Negrin "had a small penis and [his] co-workers made fun of him on a daily basis."
After months of ridicule, Negrin told the police that "he could not take the jokes anymore and lost his mind."
So on Tuesday night, when fellow screen Hugo Osorno, 34, arrived at his car at the end of a shift, Negrin was allegedly waiting for him.
Negrin wanted Osorno to let him inside the car to "resolve a problem and finally respect him," according to the police report. When Osorno refused to open the passenger door, Negrin allegedly came around the vehicle and took out his police baton.
He then allegedly said in Spanish: "Get on your knees or I will kill you and you better apologize," two other TSA agents told police.
"I'm going to blow your head off," one of the officers also allegedly heard Negrin say.
With the police baton, Negrin then started to hit Osorno on his arms and back. Osorno told police he "was in fear" and apologized. Negrin the left the parking lot in his own car.
Osorno was treated for his injuries by the fire department in the lot. He suffered bruises and cuts on his back and arms. Negrin was arrested the next day at his post at the TSA checkpoint.
Negrin was charged with aggravated battery and released Wednesday night on $7,500 bond.
Negrin and Osorno didn't immediately return phone calls seeking comment this morning.
TSA spokesman Greg Soule said the agency has a zero tolerance policy for workplace violence.
"Per our normal procedures, TSA is moving quickly to act on the security officer charged with assault," Soule said. "At the same time, we are investigating to determine whether other officers may have violated procedures during a training session with coworkers and committed professional misconduct."
He added that the training was internal and at no time was anyone from the traveling public involved.
"Inappropriate comments in the work place are not acceptable and will be dealt with swiftly," Soule said. "This is an isolated incident that we take very seriously."
The full-body scanners were slowly phased into airport security at several locations across the country in 2008, but their use expanded this year after the failed Christmas day bombing attempt of a Delta flight from Amsterdam.
