Woah, this is a thread about words that make you nervous! Yeesh, I'm not good at understanding stuff. Sorry.

I can't think of any right now, but I know when I hear one. I kinda live in the current moment.

It's never the word. It's how a word might be said.

There was this priest I knew who always pronounced "Christ" as "Chris-T" with the T being slightly aspirated and soft. I hated that. It sounded evil and oily to me and made me feel ill inside. Which makes sense because it was when I was working with him that I had a major meltdown and he sent me into treatment. I'm still waiting for God to smite him.

I always cringe when I hear someone start a sentence with the word 'Apparently'. You can usually take this as shorthand for 'The following is almost certainly untrue, but I'm about to state it as fact anyway'. It's almost like when people start by saying 'Im not racist, but...' or 'I dont want to sound rude, but...'

I have to really bite my lip to prevent myself butting in when someone uses meaningless or redundant language like 'overexagerate; or 'innit?'

If you are ever in a flood or wildfire and the National. Guard come in, you'll change your mind about that.

If you are ever caught in a foreign crisis, and the Marines come in and get you home, you'll change your mind about that.

If you are ever facing violence in the street and the police arrive, you'll change your mind about that.

If you ever need to get somewhere in a hurry, and you use the highways to get there, you should change your mind about that.

I have to agree with the op about networking. I'm told it's the thing to do for employment security, and this fills me with intense anxiety.
