I don't exactly know where this came from, (I am a middle child) but I realized that a majority of my autistic friends are the eldest son/daughter. Hmm... coincidence?

Ha, eldest of 5 here.

I have two uncles in particular, one is also diagnosed, the other one must be Aspie. They're maternal half-brothers, and each of them is the eldest child of their respective fathers.

Edit: the same is also true of the remaining 2 AFK Aspies I know. That's... a bit of a coincidence.

Edit 2: FFS!! !

I stupidly clicked the wrong button when trying to edit my above post. Sorry for the double post. >_<

I'm the eldest, but my younger brother most likely has AS as well.

I am the second eldest. The eldest is a year older than me and he probably has undiagnosed Aspergers.

In the general population first children/only children are more common than second children, who are more common than third, and so on.

But I doubt that its as lopsided as the three to one ratio that we are showing on this poll between first-and-onlies, and everyone else.

I'm the 3rd child on my father's side and the first on my mother's.

I have two brothers. The eldest I have no idea. But the second elder brother (who is 30) probably has it. My twin sister probably doesn't have it.

I'm the youngest, all of my siblings popped out perfect in every way. My parents really had no idea how they ever had a kid like me.

I noticed it when reading a paper, but I don't think it's correlated.

Youngest of 3. Other two have no neurological impairments, and not suspected to have any.

I'm the second child. Got it from my dad. I basically got the whole set from him, looks, personality, brains, talents, confidence, optimism. I can't complain too much as I do like most of the qualities. I just hope I don't get his cancer.

I'm the oldest between my sister and myself. I'm on the spectrum and she's not.

I have met or heard of families with the oldest child being the Autistic one, but also I have met or heard of families where the middle or youngest child is the Autistic one, so I don't think it makes any difference. You're born when you're born, whether it's before your older sibling(s) or after. Being born first doesn't increase the chances of becoming an Aspie. It's probably just coincidence, although I might be missing something. Maybe it isn't coincidence, I don't know. I'm just giving my opinion.

I'm the youngest sibling in my family, and I happen to be the only sibling on the spectrum. My brother has depression and extreme shyness and low self-esteem but is not on the spectrum. Asperger's or Autism seems contagious to siblings so he's probably picked up traits of it from me, being so I took up most of the attention as a child, plus he was quite a well-behaved child who didn't need a lot of attention. My parents never had favourites.
